A suspense filled thriller about six travelers who spend the night in a remote California desert motel. Each of them leaves the following morning "feeling good," but unaware that they have inadvertently become addicted to a gaseous drug piped into their rooms. Jeffrey, the owner of the motel, is a scientist who was fired by a prestigious Southern California drug manufacturer for giving an anti-aging hormone he discovered to his beautiful Latina wife. Spinning slowly into the depths of insanity, he decides to test the effectiveness of another of his drug discoveries on unsuspecting motel guests. He calls the drug Freedom because it frees people from depression, anger, stress, grief, and aggression. Jeffrey has grandiose plans to make Freedom available throughout the world in order to bring about peace and harmony, but instead it causes grief and chaos in the lives of the motel guests. The cast of characters includes a defrocked priest, a Native American pediatric doctor, a wealthy widow, a Brazilian couple who own gold mines and a salesman intent on finding himself. Blue Coyote Motel presents an engaging look at the human frailties present in all of us.… (plus d'informations)

Cannot read a book that makes a pedophile a hero or states a child that is being raped enjoyed being sexually assaulted.

The sample on Amazon shows a prologue that is little more than a couple of character descriptions. The scientist is obviously a man with an ego a mack truck couldn't handle since it states he believes he's going to do what Jesus and Buddha never could (world peace). His wife is literally described as "The very beautiful and sexy Maria..." who is the hispanic character who was out to leave her inferior living accommodations by marry rich which is how she ended up with the scientist.

(Two paragraphs for a prologue does not make a section of the book in my mind, but whatever.) It's also sad to think my comment here is about the same size as the entire prologue. ( )

I don't get all the 4 and 5 star reviews for this one. Another reviewer commented quite well on the obvious use of stereotypes. I thought the premise was cool, but I wouldn't have bothered had the ratings not been so high. I found the narrative style to be overly simplistic, as was the plot. Perhaps the author will develop further with time. ( )

Blue Coyote Motel addresses many important issues; the most prevalent being women's poor self-image, drug addiction and the violation of issuing drugs to unsuspecting victims. The plot revolves around a mad scientist and his image-obsessed wife who set up a motel in the middle of a desert. He organizes an illegal lab in the basement of the motel where he fabricates clandestine drugs to alleviate his wife's fears of getting old and another one that will save the whole of humanity from depression and evil and therefore make the world a better place. His guinea pigs are the weak and unsuspecting clients who stop by for a restful night.
Dianne Harman's suspense novel brings us beyond her unique story plot. There is a message of hope here that empowers all of us; that we must look into ourselves to find our inner strength to overcome our fears and weaknesses. This story doesn't simply aim to entertain; it is an affirmation of the goodness inherent in each and everyone.

Blue Coyote Motel is a well-written, easy to read novel shedding light on many different facets of addiction. I loved how the author carefully introduced us to the cast of characters in the first half of the book by drawing us into their lives and then revealed how their lives intertwined in the second half. Very well done and I loved the suspense that led to the reveal. I pulled for each of the characters in their individual situations, battling their own demons in their own way. It brought to light the fact that each of us have some form of addiction in our lives and identifying the addiction is often something we are hesitant to do. I'm excited to see how the next chapter plays out in Coyote in Providence. ( )

This novel was kind of anticlimactic..Long build up for very little reward. The verbiage used by the characters was just wrong..not how normal people speak in their daily lives at all. The plot was sound but the execution not that great. An OK read. ( )
