A wonderful book, especially if you find yourself in a slump (or are still on the rebound from one). Even if your life is "perfect," this book will help you prepare for whatever pitfalls may cross your path in the future. Great book to have when you are in transition, after the death of a loved one or a relationship, the end of a job, an accident or a devastating illness or life-changing diagnosis. Where Will You Go From Here uses the wisdom of the Bible as well as that of the counselor and coach. Ms. Burton's approach takes a very calm, common-sense look at where people are in the midst of a crisis and helps them work out the next steps. You can tell that Ms. Burton has been "in the ditch", as she puts it, and can relate to someone who is there. The advice is solid and inspirational. Working through the questions at the ends of the chapters helps you to really think through your situation, what led you to it and what is the best way to proceed out of your ditch and on with the rest of your life. This book came to me at a transition point in my own life and I have found it to be a great tool. It helped me to look at my situation calmly and rationally and to really think about what got me there, which is essential to moving forward.(Review based on complimentary Advance Reader copy.) Headline for Book Review: How to Overcome your Challenges This was a free book by Waterbrook Press All Rights Reserved Quote: "Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out." ~John Wooden~ Valorie Burton does a wonderful job with this book helping others to move ahead in their lives when life seems to be at a standstill. I have been through some of the most challenging times in my life as a single mother and this book really would help anyone out who needs to be encouraged through their peaks and valleys of life. I remember my life going so smoothly and then one day my husband asked me for a divorce and Valorie tells real life stories of how to overcome adversity in this book with clients she has had to counsel of her professional life. In her own personal life she says, "This will not destroy me. I believe in God. On the other side of this challenge, I will be a better and stronger person." As Valorie talks of her own personal story she also guides you with your unexpected life challenges. She gives the tools, question, and answers when facing setbacks which include: * The Five Commitments * Step by Step Guide * Strategies * Conquer * Negativity * Exercises In my opinion we all go through setbacks whether it is a job loss, natural disaster, divorce, lay off, illness or though a mid life crisis. Valorie is wonderful at expression and giving helpful insights that worked for her and her clients. As a Christian I really loved her talk about scripture references as my guide to conquering my adversities now and for further references. This book is thought provoking and would be a great study guide for small groups. Valorie Burton is a certified personal and executive coach. Her other book is "what's really holding you back?"
