Banned Book Week is September 25 - October 2. As a public library, we support Freedom of Speech and are opposed to censorship. However, we also take into consideration whether or not materials in the children's section are age appropriate.
Many of the titles that are on the banned or challenged booklist are there because the book was available in a classroom or school library and a parent felt the subject matter or language was inappropriate for the age of the students. How do you feel about this? If your parents told you that you couldn't read a specific book, would you read it anyway or respect their wishes?
