YA Zombies: The Forest of Hands and Teeth

Zombies, Contagious Pathogens, and Apocalyptic Settings are my thing. Recently, I've run out of books to read having reread The Conquerer Worms and WWZ too often.

A teacher-friend recommended The Forest of Hands and Teeth a few months ago. And I immediately dismissed it as probably being way too juvenile.

I gave in a few days ago and am glad I did. Yes, it was a coming of age, girlie in a Twilight sense novel, but the zombies were fantastic! I did catch myself rolling my eyes at some of the "new 16 year old love" stuff. Definitely one of the better fleshed out worlds I've read about lately.

It's companion book, The Dead Tossed Waves was equally good and I read both in consecutive days after downloading them onto my Nook.

Hopefully, this trend of zombie books everywhere (even in the YA section) is a harbinger of a good publishing trend to come!

Thanks for the heads-up! :) I haven't seen the book around, but then I'm not really into the whole zombie trend lately. Still, I love YA books, so I'll have to look for it when I'm at work sometime. Thanks! :)

Yes, thanks for mentioning this book. I've seen it in our store multiple times but never checked to see what it was about. It looks good. I'll probably pick it up the next day I work.

Sorry to revive an old post. I just wanted to say The Forest of Hands and Teeth was marketed as adult/sci-fi in Australia, (or Queensland, at least). I have the first and second books--do they seem like they'd fit as adult books; or are strictly YA?

(I'm not really bothered by the age it fits, I'll read anything that's a zombie book.)

Generation Dead by Daniel Waters (a YA zombie book) looks similar to Carrie Ryan's books. Not mushy like Twilight.

There's also a YA zombie book coming out later in the yeary by Jonathan Maberry called Rot and Ruin that looks good. (sorry, touchstones not picking up the title).

I just finished The Forest of Hands and Teeth. I really enjoyed it. I liked it so much that I actually turned around and bought The Dead Tossed Waves because I had to see what happens next.
