So, I've been toying with the idea of starting two new challenge groups that I think there is a place for. I've already received some feedback from people who say they'd join but I want more thoughts.

The first group idea is for an Alphabet Challenge. The idea being to read a book for every letter of the alphabet and another challenge of reading an author for every letter of the alphabet.

The second group idea is a global challenge. the idea is to read 50 books by authors from 50 different countries with the intent to expand horizons beyond the standard US-British reading lists. Time era doesn't matter and I'm not sure if there would be a time frame for either but I figured it'd be pretty nifty.

Maybe steal an idea from LJ and make it 1001 days... which is about 2.75 years.

So please, opinions would be great and also to know if you'd be interested in one both or neither.

Thanks so much in advance!

Amanda aka TOM

I'm actually participating in an A-Z challenge exactly like what you've described through my blog, and I know that one year I saw a global challenge, but I'm not sure if it was on LT or not, or if there is still one ongoing.

I think you would garner a lot of interest, but you would have to keep in mind that a lot of people might already be participating in something like these, and wouldn't necessarily join unless the guidelines were the same. With a longer time frame like that you might get more interest, though. It might be more appealing to some people than the year usually given for challenges.

I'm currently participating in something along the lines of the 50 different countries challenge you mention, although ours is a book from an author of every country as recognized by the U.N. in 1001 days. The challenge is not on LT, but I bet you'd get a lot of interest in one that was, seeing as groups like Reading Globally are fairly popular.
Good luck!

I think it would be fun to do the ABC challenge! I think I might start it (in about a week, that is, after school is out). Would anyone like to do the challenge with me? It could be a group read thing if we wanted...

the reading globally group does a bunch with the "reading around the world" thing. check that out.

i do like the alphabet idea though... i'd probably get in on that.

have you considered combining the 2 ABC Challenges for a 52-book challenge rather than two 26-book challenges...
