I ran across this group by accident while looking for something else. Not really surprised to find a Lincoln group, just a little surprised that it isn't that active. I have lived outside Springfield, IL for the last 20 year. I'm afraid I take all the Lincoln sites for granted. I haven't even been to the new Lincoln Musem yet, even though I drive past it several times a week. Springfield is geering up right now for Lincoln's 200th birthday next year. If you like I could let anyone who wants to know about up comming events.

Hey KathiJ, I think the museum is a must. It is Abrahan "disneyfied", but it does have a lot of very interesting exhibits and events. I am hoping to get to Springfield for some of the upcoming broo-haha, but am not too sure if I can. Looks like there is going to be something there for everyone.

Last Sunday in the Springfield State Journal-Register there was a very nice article about how the state of Illinois is counting on all the tourism trade due to Lincoln's birthday. Below is a link to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commision Web site.

Well, the tourists will be lucky. Opening days/hours of Lincoln historic sites have been cut back due to state funding reductions. The Lincoln Bicentennial Commission is providing some funding, but my understanding is that it won't kick in until the spring of next year.

And they won't get to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House at all, as it's closing as of December 1.
