Rahel said they had taken Nala so that Akka worked harder. Who do you think ‘they’ were? Did this initially make it seem more or less likely the victim was Nala?

I think they are sex traffickers and they would lose their leverage if the victim was Nala. Sadly, Nala could also be prostituted.

I think ‘they’ were sex traffickers and Nala being the one missing makes it more likely the victim was Nala.

I presumed ‘they’ were whoever had brought Akka into the country - traffickers, and that she was being forced into prostitution. It didn’t necessarily follow from this that her daughter, Nala, was the victim - whatever was searching for the girl in the opening chapter appeared supernatural, not gangster.
