Book dedications are often not straighforward. The one that's finally provoked this message is Ceredigion : a wealth of history, dedicated "I Phyllis a Merëd" ('To Phyllis and Merëd'), which I know to be Phyllis Kinney and her husband Meredydd Evans, but others might not.
Much the same as "Blurbers", dedications can capture part of the "tangled mass of friendships", but only if it's clear who the dedicatees are. Does anybody already add this information where needed, and if so, how and where? My inclination is as a seperate line in the same Dedication field (i.e. not an Added item), as I've added to Ceredigion : a wealth of history. Or perhaps in the Disambiguation notice ("Clarifications ... just as information")?

I would say that the dedication is what the author wants it to be. It should be left exactly as the author gave it, to the maximum extent possible within LT's formatting limits (e.g. I know of no way to center a dedication even though the vast majority of dedications are centered).
I understand the desire to clarify, but if the author doesn't want to clarify, we shouldn't be adding to the dedication field.
I think the answer would be something like a "book notes" field. But that could get contentious fast. Maybe better not to get started....

Why not use the disambiguation field? It is for "Clarifications to be used by future combiners and separators, or just as information." (emphasis mine)

That sounds like something to put in comments, as the dedication has the possibility of changing from edition to edition.
And honestly, a writer does a dedication a specific way for a specific reason. Just because you might know who they mean, that doesn't mean everyone does, nor that the author wants everyone to know.
