I've got one book available on Amazon which I'm haphazardly trying to promote. It's not in KDPS at the moment. Now, I'm looking at also publishing it on Google Play and Apple Books. But I understand that if you enrol in KDPS, you cannot sell the ebook anywhere else. So I would have to temporarily remove the book from Google and Apple while using KDPS, which messes up the algorithms on those stores - algorithms which could otherwise help sell the book.

So on the one hand, I want to reach a wide audience by selling through multiple shops, but it would nice to take advantage of KDPS. Any thoughts? In the UK if that's relevant.

Oddly, I took my trilogy out of KDP Select and went wide just a few days ago. I'm UK-based as well. I think Select (more specifically, Kindle Unlimited) can work well for prolific writers with a fanbase who like to binge read. But since I was getting very few KU page reads, there wasn't a huge benefit to staying in Select. The main other "advantage" with Select is being able to make your book free for 5 or 7 days in your 90-day term, for promotions. I've decided not to do that anymore since such giveaways didn't translate to reviews or sell-through.

Happy to chat further if you want.

>2 MHThaung: Interesting, thanks. Do you have to remain in Select for a full 90 days, or can it be a shorter period? I'm also wondering about using Amazon ads but I understand that can be expensive...

When you sign up, you agree to the full 90 days. I hear anecdotes of people coming out early (eg so that books in a series aren't part in, part out), but you have to argue with them, and there's no guarantee they'll agree.

I've played around a very little with ads. They probably work better for a series, when you can afford Book 1 to be a loss leader in the hope there's a good sell-through (or is it read-through?) rate. I rarely get sales through ads - slightly more successful (but not enough to make my money back) with promotional newsletters. It depends on how much you're willing to spend, really. And with no guarantee of success.

>4 MHThaung: Thanks again. I think I'll go wide, as you put it.
