Hi there, similar question to one I saw in here recently re: combining/separating authors & aliases, but mine has more to do with my changes repeatedly reverting.
I've a few times combined all the authors for the various books published by Broodcomb Press (they are aliases of the same person) and somehow they keep getting separated again. Could that somehow be happening automatically, or would it be another librarythinger doing it? I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong, as it's an unusual case.
What I was doing was combining each of these authors:
A Mosaic Obituary
Upmorchard / A Trick of the Shadow
A Journal
The Settlements
The Night of Turns
Wild Marjoram Tea
Simple enough, but the one complicating factor is that one of the pen names, J.M. Walsh, is the same name as another author that was already on LT, so I:
- divided the two J.M. Walsh authors
- made the pre-existing one J.M. Walsh #1, and properly associated his works with #1
- made the Broodcomb Press one J.M. Walsh #2
- made the canonical name Jamie Walsh for J.M. Walsh #2
- made the other authors referenced above all aliases of J.M. Walsh #2.
The J.M. Walsh separation has remained intact but the other aliases keep re-separating. I thought I'd done everything correctly (I was always able to arrive at the "you have 7 works by this guy" on the author page for J.M. Walsh #2)
but maybe I'm in too deep! So I wanted to check here. Thanks in advance, I realize this is fussy business.

made the canonical name Jamie Walsh for J.M. Walsh #2
Please don't do that. See https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/Common_Knowledge:
Note: Canonical titles and names are not a solution to these three problems:
Library vs. Amazon capitalization differences
Combination problems
Multiple-author problems
the other aliases keep re-separating
When there are multiple authors with the same name, you should not combine any pseudonyms with the split author page. So if people see that you've done that, they'll separate the wrongly combined names.

Thanks for clarifying! So, is there no way to deal with same-name authors that have pseudonyms?

>3 anjenue: The split author can be aliased to combined pseudonyms. That way all the works will appear on the same page, plus it links the uncombined page indicating it is the same person. (A split can't be combined because the system combines all the splits, in your case both J.M. Walsh 1 & 2 would be combined with the pseudonyms)
