Any significance to someone else having been previously hanged on the Hanging tree?

I thought Pauline's hanging there was symbolic of something - maybe revenge or a warning

Perhaps there's meaning for the murderer, but I can't see what it would be.

I think it was some type of a warning or message.

It's part of the village's history and I'm sure there are many stories told about it through the centuries...so the murderer used it perhaps to scare the people of the village or to make some kind of statement.

I think it was some sort of statement that ties back to the original woman's hanging.
