Hi all! (Assuming anyone joins me here.) I thought it might be nice to have an introductions thread, for any new people and anyone who needs a refresher for who is in the group.

My name is Jen, and I'm a former scientist/current medical writer living in Chicago. I had a streak of many years where I read over 100 books, but the past 2 years I've come up short. I read a lot of literary fiction, nonfiction (especially science and history). I'm hoping to read some (any, really) poetry this coming year, as well as make a dent in the unread books that are currently on my shelf.

Thanks for adding this group. Good luck with your goal. I enjoy reading mysteries and was really sad to read of the death of Sue Grafton. I have read all her books and enjoyed them very much. I am rereading Agatha Christie's books right now. Janice (jbegab)

I love mysteries, too - my particular favorites are police procedurals, although I do love Agatha Christie (I tend to prefer Poirot to Mrs. Marple, though). I'm planning on reading a lot of Ian Rankin books this year.

Hi all. I'm Jean, and mostly I read sci fi and fantasy, although I confess to disliking vampires and zombies. I do venture off to mystery and thrillers now and again, not to mention a historical fiction book now and again.

In 2017 I read 89 books, but then I didn't count DNFs, which I will count this year.

Thanks for starting the group.

Hi! I missed the link to this group and inadvertently created my own so I posted a message on the group I created telling everyone to go to this group instead.

Anyway, as a a ROOTer I set a goal for myself of 75 ROOTs a year, and for 2017 I exceeded that goal with 84. Since my ROOTing doesn't include Kindle or other e-books, nor does it include books I've newly acquired during the year, I probably exceeded 100 books overall in 2017, so this group will give me a chance to tally my 2018 results and shoot for One Hundred.

ETA: I only discovered the 2017 One Hundred group toward year's end so I never joined it but did put myself on "watching" status.

Hi! I'm Roni in San Diego, and this will be my 11th year on LT. I hang out in the 75er group as well as here, and that's where I post my craft , garden, and cat pictures in addition to the book reviews I post here. I'm retired and engage in gardening and crafting, notably pottery, wirework and crochet, in addition to reading and cat-wrangling. The household consists of my husband, 6 cats (3 acquired in 2017 as feral kittens in our back yard, see 2017 threads!) and a small dog in addition to myself. I am very much a genre reader in science fiction and fantasy, but do participate in the nonfiction challenge each year and read some outside of those areas as well, spurred on by fellow LTers' reviews. I typically read close to 150 books a year--2017 will be the second straight year I'm a few below that level after 4 straight years above. I read 141 books, but only 32 ROOTs.

Hi. I appreciate that the group for this year is up and running. I am a retired psychotherapist who decorates starting with bookcases. I have been in at least one book group for the past 24 years. I tend to read literary fiction and listen to lots of suspense/mystery books and others. Here's to another year of great reads!

Hello, everyone. Happy new year to all of you.

I am James, a 54 year old civil servant, working as a ministerial drafter in the Ministry of Justice in London.

It is great to be back for another year's reading challenge, and I am very grateful to Jennifer for setting this Group up. I am looking forward to seeing how evryone gets one, and to picking up loads of book bullets as the year progresses.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018.

How nice to "meet" others in this group - good idea. I'm Judi, a retired computer programmer, among other things. Since I started quilting, I don't read quite as much as I did, but I tend to intersperse history, biography and some politics with historical mysteries, cozies and occasionally some science fiction. And a lot of popular science, some of which I even understand! :)

Thanks for starting this group again - I do like keeping track of what I've read.

Happy New Year, everyone! It's great to see this group up and running again--thanks, Jen!

Meanwhile, I'm Jennifer (or, another Jen!), and I read constantly. I'm a book editor (and a sometimes teacher, though I've mostly left that behind), but I really only count the pleasure-reading books I read in my numbering/thread. Heaven knows what number I'd reach if I counted the books that I edited, and I reached 114 in 2017 without them! Occasionally, you'll see me review a book I edited that's just been published, but I only do it with the ones I really and truly fall in love with (maybe one or two per year).

I read a ton of spec fiction (you name it--fantasy, horror, sci-fi, unclassifiable speculative/weirdness...) and a lot of suspense, with a fair amount of nonfiction thrown in. I'm new to romance, but reading some of that also, and I read literary/general fiction on and off. Once in a rare while, I pick up historical fiction. Lastly, I love poetry (and my one published book is poetry), but I didn't read so much of it as I usually do in 2017--I plan to correct that in 2018.

Happy new year, I am John, a 51 year old civil servant in the Department for Education in England. This is the first time I have joined this challenge, though I have read over 100 books each year since 2007. My realistic aim is to read around 120 books in 2018, though I have read more in a handful of years.

Hi, I am Bryan, living in the beautiful Adelaide Hills in Australia with the lovely Christine.
Work part-time as a temporary primary school teacher 2 or 3 days a week, leaving enough time to read at least 100 books a year.
My 9th year of reading 100 or more books, and 7th year of Librarything 100 book challenges.
Read mainly modern fiction, classics, fantasy and some scifi, some nonfiction.
Have 100s of my own books on the shelves but am a sucker for book lists, the latest being 'The Greatest Books' which combines and ranks many book lists, and currently has 1977 fiction books listed !?
Happy 2018 and may we all reach our reading goals !

I'm Meredith. I'm a stay-at-home disabled person so have rather a lot of time for reading. This will be my 7th year in 100 Books.

I read more non-fiction than fiction but otherwise a bit of most things (dedicated thrillers and romance, not so much, though I'm making an exception this year for a friend's favorite). I mostly read via audiobook both for chronic pain reasons and so I can multitask with crafting, cooking, etc...

Hi, I'm Sheila. I live in Boulder City, Nevada home of Hoover Dam, about 25 miles from Las Vegas. It's a small town. I've been in this group for a few years. Last year was the only year I didn't hit my goal as I've had health problems and am now recovering from hip surgery. I'm a reading specialist teacher for an inner city school here in Las Vegas. I where many of the students are below grade level in reading. I read all kinds of books.

Hello. I'm Ifty. I'm a history teacher in Karachi, Pakistan. So this is something of an attempted 'comeback' for me. I was active on LT a few years back and tried the 100 book challenges back in 2010-2012 but I have been inactive for the last 4 years. Life just got in the way I guess and my reading fell off and it felt like I just didn't have the time.

But this year I'm determined to get back in touch with my love of reading and I hope to use this always wonderful group to help me do it! So hello again to those of you who were around a few years ago, seeing your names and reading your posts is like getting back in touch with old friends. And also hello to those who joined while I was in limbo or those joining for the first time - I'm looking forward to making your acquaintance over books!

As for my reading habits. I used to read in several genres, though the bulk of the fiction was science fiction and fantasy and the bulk of nonfiction was history (unsurprisingly since I teach the subject!) But the last few years I've been doing far less reading and most of what I read were graphic novels. My goals this year are just to revel and enjoy in the reading - I suspect hitting 100 books read will be difficult (though a good portion of graphic novels may get me close) but its all about the journey rather than the destination.

Hi, I'm a school librarian from Texas; been an LTr about 11 years. I've never taken a challenge before, so since 100 is a nice round number...I'll read almost anything, except westerns and political thrillers. Don't be surprised if you see a lot of children's lit on my list though. They're are a part of my job; not to mention I love children's and YA lit.

Hi! I'm Tess. I teach high school history for 9th and 10th graders (14-15 year old): World History 1700-current, American History 1877-current. I'm also an adjunct professor and teach Western Civ and The Holocaust. I've read over 100 books per year for the last 2-3 years without really planning to. Hopefully I will this year, too! I'm on a book "diet" and plan no purchases this year except for using giftcards I received at Christmas. Most of my non-school reading tends to be historical fiction, gothic, psychological thrillers, and general fiction; especially Victorian lit. I read mostly ebooks as an ereader is much easier for me than a real book. I also listen to audio on the drive to and from school which adds an extra 40 minutes of "reading" time each day. I live in central Ohio and have 2 sons and 7 grandchildren.

Hello all, just joined. Apologies for doing it the wrong way around - I started a thread before seeing this one.

Name is Adam, and I'm an IT nerd getting back into reading after a long absence. I've always loved books but somehow life got in the way (as it tends to do) and I had read probably less than a dozen books in the last 20 years, up to late last year. A couple of things changed that - I finally have my own home, and a dedicated room in it to call a library (a dream of mine,) and also I got some much-overdue glasses so that reading was no longer an actual struggle. This has triggered a huge rediscovery of my love of reading, and have now read 80 books so far this year. I'm also buying like crazy to fill up my new library!

Cheers,
Adam

Having a library doesn't preclude stacks of books on the floor, and everywhere else :)
