Although I have not yet finished the book, I have popped on-line to give it an early review as I am enjoying it so much. The prose is beautifully constructed and the little cat (Paka Mdogo in Kiswahili apparently) is a delight. This will definitely be heading in the direction of my eight year old once I have finished and then maybe in the direction of the school library to reach a wider audience! ( )

Paka Mdogo (Little Cat) is a delightful book which may be enjoyed by adults of all ages and older children looking for an alternative adventure tale with excellent literary credentials.
The quality and artwork of the book and the blurb ensure that it would not be off putting to any potential reader.
What I especially liked about this book is that it could easily have been written as a people book, the protagonist Sheena could be drawn as a young woman becoming lost in Africa and embarking on a quest to save her family from imminent danger, meeting a collection of characters along the way, some surprisingly helpful, others downright unsavoury, and using all of her guile and wit to come through dangerous situations to save the day, but where would be the fun in that?
By using an animal heroine and the voices of the wildlife encountered on the journey the author not only entertains but educates.
I won this through a LibraryThing Giveaway, and will now encourage my sons to read it, it will become a firm family favourite on our library shelves for years to come. ( )
