Ordered another by the same author on December 28 (1), Excellent easy and quick story about a boy who thinks he's been missing. Shows a boy struggling with reading but excellent with woodcrafting. A mystery (1), Excellent book with the main character an 11 year old girl but a gifted chemist from a wierd family. This is the first in the "to be" series. I've preordered the next one which comes out in March. (1), Not nearly as good as the first one but still enjoyed it. (1), Good. Set in Scotland with a policeman who appears a fool but isn't. Plan to read the next few. (1), A new series but only good for the history. Try one more of them in the future. (1), Good - letters from a woman writer to her editor (1), Great Book sort of like the James Herriot veternarean books but this guy is small village physician. Need to read his others. (1), A girl and her sister are left with their aunt in an old rundown plantation. She begins to dream what actually happened during the Civil War. Very good but ending is not great (1), Excellent book about a village of blacks in Canada and the slave trade in USA during the 1840's (1), Excellent book about black help and white employers during the 60's. (1), and people on Guernsey Island after WW II about what happened during Nazi Occupation and also a love story (1), Interesting premise but a depressing tale (1), who has avoided death for her self and the other young women by telling the Sultan a continuing story each night. Based on the 1001 Arabian Tales (1), the Sultan's wife (1), Marjan is brought to the Sultan's harem in order to supply new stories to Shahrazad (1), Great - good alliterations (1), Good. Young adult that has cancer and two boys that help her plant an arboritum (1), Mary Call tries to keep the family together after her father's death. The family lives in the Smoky Mountains as sharecroppers. (1), An excellent retelling of an ancient Nordic legend involving a monster and mother as well as a dragon - students who love fantasy will love this one. (1), need to read - classroom - used for enriched reading in the 5th grade (1), Loved it. Great book for high schoolers but inappropriate for 6th grade. Drats. Penfriends between two rival schools create friendships and problems. The twisting of the relationships as shown by their letters to one another keeps the story going. (1), Not nearly as good as Elephant Run but boys will love it I think. The story is based in Kenya Africa during a drought. Jacob Lansa goes to Africa after his mother's death to try and find his father who's a research biologist tracking elephants. Set in ancie Rome and tells the story of the rise of Vespasian and his freed slave wife Caenis. Walter Dean Myers is the poet he connects with and that's the poet featured in Watson's Go to Birmingham. (1), Slow beginning and slow plot line but excellent story about a 30 year old woman who goes back and sees and talks to herself when she was 22. (1), Slow beginning but great end. Young girl in love but would not be appropriate for some immature readers. Has references to homosexuality that might confuse some young girls. (1), I really liked this one. True story of a young French girl who serves as a messenger during WWII. The beginning is a little dull for readers who would not have any background but you just need to lead them in the beginning and then turn them loose. Girls (1), Setting is in Ancient rome during the Empire time. First book in the Mystery series. (1), Two different covers - one with young boy and one with a woman in a long 1800's dress. Good book for the cival war period and how anyone of us may have a black relative on the family tree. (1), soon to be married (1), Interesting true story but I don't think kids would like the book. It's also for young adults. (1), I probably liked the book because it shows just how crazy parents get over their children. Sort of a mystery - Mrs. Zender has a house like a museum - Amedeo moves in next door and helps William Wilcox and his mother get ready for Mrs. Zender's estate sell. Can be compared with the early Stone Age and how and why people needed to work together to survive. Interesting laws that limited slave owners right to free their own slaves. He travels back to WW II via an old radio where a young boy asks for his help. The novel is being considered for next year's gifted and enrichment groups. It' (1), Excellent for girls - especially girls who who are experiencing Queen Bee and Wanna Bee classmates as well as the others (in the hopes of seeing themselves) The mothers of four girls decide to form a book club using the book Little Women. Start the book with a collage of pictures. Toward the end of the book students will pick a pict (1), and annoying 4yr. old half brother. He enters 7th grade and fall in love with a girl. He has several close friends and together they get through the year. He meets another girl Marcelene when he moosecalls during her trombone recital. The hormonal escapad (1), sister (Cotiehead) (1), Excellent and very funny for boys at the end of sixth grade (maybe parents of boys too!)
