Completed 4 years in active duty in Army of Us in Anti Aircraft Artillery. Entered as private and ended as Captain, battery Commander. Remained in active reserve. Entered NC State College under GI Bill. Earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Economics. Entered University of Wisconsin, Madison and earned a PhD in Economics. Accepted a position with Farmer Cooperative Service in US Department of Agriculture. After 20 years of service in Washington retired in February of 1972 as Director in charge of Cooperative International Services, Rural Services, GS 15 with 30 years of service (prior to war had worked for Federal Government at State level). Accepted a job in Ethiopia as advisor to Minister of Agriculture, two year assignment. Was asked to continue after the original two years ended, but declined. For next 16 or 17 years worked short assignments as Economist in 26 countries scattered over the world.
