I grew up in northern Wisconsin, just across the road from a lake shaped like a heart, and just outside a town with three bars and no stoplights. I went to college at UW-Madison, where I pursued two lib-arts degrees and took zero creative writing classes, and after a few years of bouncing around the Americas on bus and bike, I landed in Portland, Oregon, where I now live. I spend mornings putting words to paper, afternoons helping others do the same at Write Around Portland, and evenings teaching workshops at the Attic Institute. My first book, GOING SOMEWHERE, is forthcoming from Plume, and I’ve begun work on a novel set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
