The story of Rose Laws, Chicago's "Gold Coast Madam," from her youth in the hills of Tennessee to her Florida retirement after serving time in prison after decades as Chicago's top "agent" for prostitutes. After Laws left her marriage to a vicious, abusive husband in Cicero, Illinois, her five kids were taken away from her and placed in a notorious Catholic orphanage where they suffered abuses of their own while she struggled to get them back. Her associations in Chicago's near west suburbs from her jobs and social activities led to her stumbling into friendships with mobsters and the agenting business, which she discovered she had a knack for and enjoyed. She starts making some money and gets her children back. A paramour gives her the Addison Motel and she begins sexing up the western suburbs. She eventually takes her business to Chicago's Gold Coast, downtown, and Rush Street nightlife neighborhoods, expanding a client list that includes local and national sports figures, actors, and politicians. "Gold Coast Madam" is Rose's compelling story, as told in the first person to Dianna Harris, filled with details of Chicago and its shadow side in the 1950s through 1990s; and the glamorous, gritty, and mundane aspects of running an illegal prostitution business.
