I saw/heard Yun read from this collection as a part of the reading with Farnaz Fatemi. As Yun is a Korean American whose collection dwells in the kitchen and at the dinner table, you know I expected to need to buy this collection from the jump. But then the final poem she read, "Reversal," cut me to the quick over and over, with lines like, "Remember: just because you're a daughter doesn't mean you must mend." And "Dear Reader: I so want to survive this. Please lead me whole into another season so I may dare begin again."

Of course I bought this. And devoured it within the week. After hearing Yun and the other poets discuss memory and how they access it for poetry, I had some extra appreciation for childhood poems like "I Revisit Myself in 1996."

A collection of heartbreaking poetries that speak about war, immigration and their struggle for survival. The poetess has this silent rage and numbness mixed with her poetries which which explores her life as a girl in immigration to a foreign land. Each poetry talks about different aspects of her life as well as her family's. She explores the struggle of being a immigrant and expresses her connection to her motherland. Through cooking recipes to mythmaking, she dwells into her personal as well as natural history, which gives us a deeper insight to her past.… (plus d'informations)
