Spencer is not a very nice woman who gets involved with not very nice men, Ben, Tommy, and Sione (John). There is a repetitiveness or perhaps obsessiveness to certain plot details. Crimes and violence are prevalent throughout out the story. Written at about a ninth grade level, there are sexual components.
I was given this ARC by an author unknown to me and I agreed to give it an honest review. Now, I'm intrigued with her writings and I want to discover more about Spencer, Ben, and Sione's dark triangle! Spencer Edwards had been let go from her job, but with unemployment checks, she was determined to find another job, but unemployed people were too many for the few openings in Houston where she lived. She sat on a bench feeling hat she'd blown her interview for a job when Ben Chang sat next to her...
Sione Tuiali had grown up with Ben and they were as close as brothers until his uncle saved him from the darkness and when his uncle willed him the Belize resort, he was more surprised than his two cousins. This was a competently written mystery – I think I just wasn't the target audience. I didn't like Robyn and I found Beanie frustrating. But I think what really didn't work for me personally was that the story seemed to be underpinned by the idea that the ultimate achievement in life is to get married and have babies.
