"Christmas at Brigadier Station" by Sarah Williams, is a charming romance involving two older protagonists. Harriet and Tom were childhood friends whose lives took them in different directions. When Tom buys a property close to Harriet, the two rediscover their friendship and true feelings for each other. This novella is a great holiday read.

This warrants the extra half star because of the locations of the story - Townsville and Julia Creek environs. I read novels set in Texas, Colorado, North Dakota, you name it in the US, so I appreciate the authors who are writing "cowboy"? rural? western? romance novels with Australian settings! I can relate a little more!

The genre may be the same, but the people, the way of life, the mores ... they are not the same - I love it!

Both the brothers were great characters and well written even if Darcy seemed a little too good to be true and the other brother, Lachlan, seemed more typical - hard drinking, risk taking - which is indeed what it says in the book.

Harmless, nostalgic escapism!

This was a delightful story! Loved the main characters, Justin & Freya, and seeing them grow as a couple. The setting was wonderful too. The author takes you through the small town and surrounding farms and attractions so that you really feel like you're there. As an armchair traveler, I loved it! There was some steam but it was also very sweet. Can't wait to see what Ms. Williams comes up with next.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
