When the blood sugar readings cross a certain threshold, doctors are prone to immediately start drug therapies, which ultimately result in drug ineffectiveness and ever higher doses. But there s an alternative approach, which targets the cause of the problem, that is high intake of glucose-rich sugars and carbohydrates in our daily food, and lack of exercise leading to obesity that exacerbate the situation. Dr. Whitaker's is one such approach, promising drastic reduction, or even elimination, of insulin dosages by strict control of diet, regular exercise, weight control, and nutrient supplements. Well worth a try, especially for those on the borderline.

Very nice cookbook for those who are diabetic. The meals look appetizing and the author appears knowlegeable about food and diet. I look forward to trying out some of the ideas. The emphasis on using egg whites instead of whole eggs is probably now outdated.½

From book: This is a book about alternative medical approaches to common diseases and health problems. It is primarily a listing of nutritional and natural remedies that may be overlooked by conventional pyhsicians. You might reasonably ask yourself, why? The simple answer is that there is little money to be made in the use of natural remedies, regardless of how beneficial they may be for the patient. Conventional modern medicine generates over a trillion dollars a year by prescribing patented drugs and costly, often dangerous, invasive diagnostic and surgical techniques. There is an obvious place for these approaches; I use them myself and recommend them when appropriate, but conventional medicine should not exclude the use of safer, often more effective and far less expensive therapies.
