Story about a nurse (Tina White) looking after an amnesiac patient (Tom Flynt) who was brought into the hospital after a car accident, following a shooting. The police are suspicious of Tom, thinking he may be faking his amnesia and that he participated in the shooting that killed a couple at a ball because he was seen there, running out with a gun. But Tina, after getting close to Tom, knows he can’t be guilty. She helps Tom out when he leaves the hospital, and tries to help him get his memory back. Will Tom ever remember who he was?

This was such a lovely and sweet read with an extremely likable main couple. Tina was such a good, warm-hearted heroine. I liked how she believed in Tom and had faith in him. Tom was a pretty classy hero. He was very attracted to Tina but was afraid to get too close, until he found out exactly who he was. There was some Thanksgiving in the story towards the second half of the book.

A pleasant and highly enjoyable read by Margaret Watson.

A solid 4.5 stars.

I was immediately pulled into the story wondering how these two people who couldn't possibly get together would get together. The story was well-constructed, the characters carefully drawn. I really enjoyed the book... until the end. Even then, I liked it, but the ending did seem rushed (which is where the 1/2 star deduction comes in). A great story, well written which I would recommend.

Once and Always by Margaret Watson
Blackhawk Security #6

Another great addition to the series! Plenty of chemistry, a bodyguard and someone in need of being guarded, and a stalker to catch were a great combination in this story.

What I liked:
* Zoe Payton Melbourne: owns her own business, wealthy, has a stalker that is escalating
* Spencer Flynn: retired Navy SEAL, works for Blackhawk Security, bodyguard for Zoe,
* Mel: Zoe’s sister and owner of Blackhawk Security (still want to read her book!)
* That the bad guy-stalker was not all bad though definitely delusional and rather obsessed
* That the killing of Zoe and Mel’s father did not keep them from doing well as adults
* The setting – Seattle
* Zoe’s strength, intelligence, and commitment to her work and women working in her field
* Hearing the backstory of both lead characters
* That Zoe had enough money to pay for a bodyguard though she might not have needed to since Spence works for Zoe’s sister
* That the stalker was dealt
* How the story ended
* Wondering who will have their story told next
* All of it really except

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how poorly mental health issues are often handled

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Just This Once by Margaret Watson
Blackhawk Security #5

Another great addition to the series! The Blackhawk Security Team has grown over time and as the business grows there will be the opportunity to hire more personnel and each one will have the opportunity to star in his or her own Book!

What I liked
* Sierra “See” Baker: lawyer, targeted by lethal people, from a secretive background, has loving parents and brother, protective, strong, capable, easy to guard for a bodyguard
* Jase Conway: ex-Navy SEAL, ex-CIA Spec Ops, works bodyguard, vigilant, capable, mad skills, difficult upbringing that influences his thoughts about the future
* The instant attraction between Sierra and Jase
* That there was more than one mystery to solve in this story
* The strong relationship between Sierra and her family
* Hearing about characters from previous books
* That I could see Jase and Sierra together and think they would make a good match
* Wondering if Sierra’s brother, Jack, might end up in a book of his own
* Wondering if Mel and Dev (met in book one) will get a book of their own
* The way the local police, FBI, Jase, and Blackhawk worked together
* That all of the mysteries were wrapped up in the end

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like – the bad guys were easy to dislike

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

With One Breath by Margaret Watson
Blackhawk Security #1

Action-packed romantic suspense set in Afghanistan near the recent takeover of the country by the Taliban, this is a book I could not put down once I started reading!

What I liked:
* Laila Burke: teacher, linguist, CIA operative, in Afghanistan to teach women and spy, strong, resilient, calm, not easily cowed, does what needs to be done, follows her heart, and perfect for Jase
* Jas Conway: Seal, CIA Spec Ops, lethal, reserved, one-night-stand guy, puts his job first, protects his heart, protective of others, team player, drawn to Laila but stubborn about it
* Mel, Dev, and Cody: team members with Jase in Afghanistan – would like to know more about them
* The location and its part in the story
* That Jase and Laila remained professional till it was okay to act on their chemistry
* The way Laila stated what she wanted…more than once…and eventually was heard by Jase
* That some of the innocents were saved
* The positive ending of the story
* Knowing that there are more books in the series to read

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The oppressiveness of the Taliban rule
* Knowing that women in Afghanistan have it tough…and wishing it could be made better

Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Fool Me Once by Margaret Watson
Blackhawk Security #3

LOVED THIS STORY! Gripping romantic suspense that had me reading into the wee hours of the morning.

What I liked:
* Alexandra “Alex” Conway: successful lawyer, street savvy, difficult childhood, on the run from hit man hired by her husband, not sure who to trust, bright, has trust issues, self-aware, good friend, really liked her.
* Gideon Wolf: ex-FBI agent, works for Blackhawk Security, investigating Bratva mole in FBI, undercover protection for Alex, intelligent, good team player, sees the big picture, knows what he wants, lethal, someone I would want in my corner.
* The writing, plot, pace, setting, tension…everything about the writing.
* Sierra: Alexandra’s partner – wonder if she will have a story of her own and it will include Cody?
* Seeing the Blackhawk Security team again and catching up with them – I wonder who will be up next and am eager to find out.
* The razor edge I felt Alex was on as she ran from Evanston to get away from her husband and tried to determine who she could trust.
* Not knowing at first if the hitman was who I thought it might be…and if he was a danger to Sierra.
* That Jeremy, Alex’s husband, did not get off scot-free.
* The strength and resilience of Alex and Gideon
* That Alex was able to overcome so much and excel as she did.
* Gideon’s backstory and how his father’s professional life impacted his own professional choices.
* The way both Alex and Gideon were self-aware, mature, communicated with one another, came up with solutions that were mutually beneficial.
* The scene near the end in the diner :)
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Jeremy Trotter: Alex’s husband/ex-husband, self-absorbed, selfish, cruel, a true creep, and criminal. He was easy to want bad things to happen to.
* The Bratva goons: dark, savage, cruel, creepy
* The FBI mole…
* Having to say goodbye to the characters and wait for the next book in the series.

Once Burned by Margaret Watson
Blackhawk Security #2

Excellent addition to the series. In book one the scene was set for the Blackhawk Security business to open when Mel and Devlin purchased a piece of property to set up their business. In this book one of their operatives, Nico Elliot, heads to Seattle as bodyguard to Julia Stewart, owner and head chef of Madeline’s.

What I liked:
* Julia: professional, competent, good boss, team player, without family, her business is her life.
* Nico: intelligent, capable, lethal, professional, protective, excellent at what he does.
* The chemistry between Julia and Nico
* That the two were wise enough not to take undue risks with their safety
* Zoe: Julia’s good friend and computer guru
* Getting to see Mel & Devlin and think about whether or not they will get together eventually
* Flynn: colleague of Nico’s…he will probably have a book of his own – wonder if he will end up with zoe or someone else?
* That the baddies were revealed and dealt with
* That having an idea of who the worst baddies was did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the story
* That the two main characters managed to get it right in the end
* Knowing that there is another book in the series to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* The people I was meant to dislike…and there was more than one of them
* Knowing that there are people in the world who are as bad as the criminals in this story

Two on the Run by Margaret Watson
Serve and Protect #2

Eleanor Perkins is leaving work late and expecting another boring Friday evening at home when her life changes in a second. Sure, she wanted a bit more spice and adventure and less blandness but being kidnapped was NOT what she had in mind! Who was the kidnapper? What was his agenda? How would it all play out? Ah well, read the book to see!

What I liked:
* Eleanor “Ellie” Perkins: conservative children’s librarian living a “beige” life. Intelligent, quick, and ready for a challenge. She learns, grows, realizes her value and is willing to reach out for what she wants by the end of the story.
* Michael Reilly: a man on the run with a goal and a destination in mind. Attractive, street smart, cunning, alpha male that Ellie gradually warmed up to…just as I did.
* The kidnapper-hostage story with heart that gave me warm fuzzies – really enjoyed this book
* Escaping from reality for the length of the story
* Wondering what I would have done in the same situation Eleanor found herself in
* The backstories of the two main characters
* All of it except…

What I didn’t like:
* The crooked cops and what they were willing to do to do

Did I enjoy this book? Yes

In Her Defense by Margaret Watson
Serve and Protect #1

A.J. Ferguson and Pierce “Mac” MacDougal work in the same police department and rub one another wrong until…or seem to. Before the end of the book their love-hate relationship has them rubbing along together in a completely different manner ;) Enjoyed escaping today and getting to know this couple better!

What I liked:
* A.J. – an empathetic, committed, intelligent woman intent on keeping her clients safe while helping them to build better lives. Her focus on abuse victims has deep roots. Her backstory definitely impacted her as a person and professional.
* Mac – a dedicated police detective that puts the job first though he does make time for fun on the side. When on a case he is focused and does all he can to solve it. His backstory was interesting…kind of wonder how he decided to go into the profession he did.
* Jake – Mac’s partner is a good friend, excellent detective and a man I hope to hear more about in the future.
* Jamie – a little boy caught up in the whirlwind created by an abusive father. I really felt for him and his mother and loved the way he and Mac interacted.
* The way the story was presented without shying away from abuse and how A.J. did her best to help the abused.
* The strength A.J. had as a child and how she used that strength to protect herself, grow as a person and even become stronger.
* The way A.J. and Mac took their time to open up to one another – trust issues seemed a big issue and communication usually helped.
* Knowing that there are two more books in the series to look forward to.
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Doak Talbot – an abusive husband and father who felt entitled to abuse and to kill.
* Realizing that abuse is not just a tool used in novels but is in fact an issue many face every day.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes

Hometown Girl by Margaret Watson
Into the Storm #6

Excellent story that, I believe wraps up this series...unless...the men on the mission in the prologue end up having a reunion someday.

Claire Kendall couldn’t wait to get out of Monroe and once she did she didn’t look back. Sure, she stayed in touch with her mother and sister but she had no desire to go back to the town she was miserable in. When her Claire hears of her sister’s death she is there for her nephew, Nick, as soon as possible. She has a plan that does not include staying in Monroe...but that is not Nick’s plan and as his mental health takes priority she agrees to stay...for awhile.

When Nick comes home wanting to join the high school football team she is not in favor – not even a little bit. After meeting Coach Tucker Hall she begins to consider the idea and Nick does get to be on the team.

When Nick mentions that he doesn’t believe his mother’s death was an accident it opens a can of worms that more than one in town wants to keep the lid on and t hat means trouble for Claire.

What I liked:
* Claire – her love for Nick is inspiring. I also liked her strength and ability to handle herself with difficult men.
* Tucker – my, oh my...a good man and a fun one that I think is perfect for Claire.
* Nick – what a challenge his life has been. Losing his mother and wanting to fit in and not knowing what will happen in his life as he goes forward is a heavy load for a fifteen year old. I like him – maybe he can have a book of his own in the future?
* The romance between Tucker and Claire – there is instant attraction but they let it simmer for a bit and that is good – and their conversations put a smile on my face more than once.
* The slow realization of Claire that Monroe as an adult is different than it was when she was a child...or her perception of it is
* That Claire and Tucker had Nick’s best interest at heart
* All of it really...except…

What I didn’t like:
* The ruthless killer – what a creep!
* Hmm...can’t think of anything else :)

Small-Town Family by Margaret Watson
Door Country #2

The question I had ata the end of book one in this series was answered in this one. What was the question? Did Dylan Smith find his biological father or not. Well, he does, but I won’t tell you who it is. Nope...you will have to read the book to find out ;)

Dylan is a reporter in town for more than one reason. He does write an article or two while there but having only a few clues to where his mother met his father he is in town to see if he can locate the man that hismother met in a cherry orchard decades ago. One of his contacts is Charlotte Burns, a charter fishing boat captain. He also wants to meet Gus Macauley because he believes the man might have insight into who his father might be.

Both Dylan and Charlotte have baggage from childhood and failed marriages and in spite of that baggage they are mightily attracted to one another. There are dates and steamy kisses and times spent with Dylan’s daughter Hayley. Add into the mix a developer wanting to get its hands on the marina, an abusive man to be dealt with, some misunderstandings to overcome and the finding of family and this proved to be a wonderful way to spend the day.

Small Town Secrets by Margaret Watson
Door County Series #1

When Kendall Van Allen opens the door of her B&B the last person she expects to be standing there is her dead husband’s best friend, Gabe Townsend. Widowed seven years before with two daughters, a cherry orchard business and the B&B to take care of she is stretched thin and very busy. Kendall and Gabe have a past history as friends...and perhaps a bit more. Whether or not the time is right for them to be together now is what is explored in this story. We also have a secondary romance between Kendall’s brother George and the woman he loves, Amy. This is a story with substance that includes migrant workers, friendships of the past, soccer and several secrets that come to light impacting more than one character in the book. I found myself intrigued by this introduction to the series and look forward to finding out if Dylan, the reporter, will find out who his father is in book two. I also want to find out what will happen in the lives of the couples met in this book as well as their children.

Red Dawn Rising by Margaret Watson
The Four #4

The storm was upon them.
Three corners of the square were completed.
Three couples joined together.
Fire and water.
Magic and sorcery.
Spells and wizardry.
The six, joined together, were formidable.
They defeated a powerful wickedness.
They thought they had won.
They relaxed their vigilance.

But Evil was watching.
Smiling at their ignorance.
Waiting for her opportunity.

Terrific conclusion to this paranormal romantic suspense series!

In each book some of the people that make up the four necessary corners required to thwart an evil fae are met, two (one male and one female) are sent on a quest they succeed in and in the process meet their mate. The eventual eight, and a few more, have special abilities which come in handy as the story unfolds. The evil is indeed worth fighting and the end of each story does provide a HEA to the main couple. In this book we learn more about the beginning and source of the evil that is being fought.

Cassidy Drake, musician, has a talent that will lead to success but when her mother is attacked everything is put on hold. While she is at the hospital she meets Finn Brody who steps in to help out and though she is leery she begins to trust him. One touch and they both realize there is more to their meeting than they first thought...colorful sparks fly and that is not all. As the story unfolds Cassidy learns more about her mother but also about family members she did not know she had. Finn and Cassidy must work together and with the other three couples to make sure the world is safe.

What I liked:
* Cassidy: she was talented, smart, resilient, warm, caring and feisty
* Finn: though a bit conflicted...wise, warm, strong and loving
* The way the book tied everything together
* That evil was thwarted

What I didn’t like:
* Exactly what I was not supposed to like...there were some baddies and I was thrilled they were handily dealt with in the end.

Did I like this book/series? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely.

Dark Matter by Margaret Watson
The Four #3

Two corners of the square completed.
Two couples joined together.
Fire and water. Magic and wizardry.
Powerful alone. Together? Formidable. Strong. Tough.
The third corner of the square needs to take shape.
But Evil is stronger, as well. More powerful. More cunning.
The hunters stalk, and Evil waits for them in the shadows.
It keeps its puppet dancing on his strings, and lures the seven closer

With an evil entity out to conquer the world and four couples needed to thwart this evil it is Flynn Parker and Mase Lynch up to bat and take a hit at the wickedness that wishes to win. The two have felt a connection for some time but are guarded and feel a need to keep a distance. That distance is dissolved temporarily but soon a wall goes up again as the two try to figure out how to move forward as partners against evil and perhaps as partners in life. Both have issues from the past to overcome, fears to deal with, family situations that were less than ideal and are unsure they can commit so it takes them time to figure it all out but eventually they do manage to do so.

The team of seven do work together and more is told about Finn Brody who will be in book four but who his partner will end up being is still a mystery. More information is given about the entity trying to take over the world and one of her minions is taken out by the seven BUT the battle is not over. Will the group prevail or will wickedness win? I am definitely eager to read book four once it is released!

An Indigo Wind by Margaret Watson
The Four #2

Gianna and Cal are on their bellies with binoculars to their eyes observing the StillWell compound while providing backup to their colleague, Mase. There is a group of individuals with “abilities” that came together in book one and together they hope to thwart an evil force. Gianna the firefighter crackles and sparks and has the ability to create and/or manipulate fire and she also has super-hearing. Cal was given a serum that has increased his speed, strength and ability to manipulate water/weather...he can also teleport. The two are quite a duo but will their attraction lead to more?

This fast-paced action-packed romantic suspense was difficult to put down once I started reading. I kept wondering if the bad guys would be thwarted OR if at least some of them would be and then...how Gianna and Cal would managae a HEA. I then wondered which couple would star in book three and what their mission would be.

I loved surfer-dude Cal and fiery Gianna was a woman to admire. I also liked meeting Brody “Finn” Finegan and wonder what part he will play in the series. I enjoyed seeing Rowan and Jack from book one of the series and wonder who will be in book four...guessing Finn but if so, who will he be paired with?

There were some loose ends left dangling at the end of the book and a hint at who might be behind the evil that needs to be thwarted...I can’t WAIT to read more!

Emma takes on the guardianship of Harley Michaels, a thirteen year old who just lost her mother. When it is discovered that Nathan could be the father of Harley it has a huge impact on a number of people. Throw into the mix not only the loop thrown by Harley’s mother but grieving Harley, an FBI investigation that impacts Nathan and his family and the potential romance between Nathan and Emma and you have a great story that will take you away to Chicago for awhile. I loved the dynamics between Harley and her new uncle, Marco, and wonder if Marco will get a book of his own...or if Harley will at some point in the future.

The Devereux Family #2

Darcy Gordon has a secret that she has been keeping for the three years she has worked as a waitress at Mama’s Place. Darcy fears that Patrick Devereux, FBI agent, will find out what her secret is when he comes to take charge of the restaurant while his brother recuperates from a nasty accident. Nathan and Darcy are definitely attracted to one another but with a time limit of six weeks neither see anything long term happening between them...perhaps not even short term. Patrick realizes shortly after his return to Chicago that there is something wrong at Mama’s Place and as he begins to investigate strange things start happening that threaten not only the restaurant but Darcy and his family, too.

This is a fast-paced well-written and very interesting story that had me invested from beginning to end. I sometimes wanted to warn the characters in the book to be careful or be smarter or not do something...you know...like you do when watching a movie and you KNOW something is going to happen and hope it won’t. I enjoyed seeing the Devereux family again and truly enjoyed reading this second book in the series.

A Safe Place by Margaret Watson
The Devereux Family #1

Frankie Devereux has set up a safe place for at-risk youth to go after school. This place is in a bad part of town and much needed in the community. She has some donors to assist a bit with finances but provides most of the funds to keep the place going by working in a bakery – she is often tired and stressed and seems to be burning her candle at both ends. When Frankie finds out that super-jock Cal Stewart has been assigned to work with her in the youth program as his community service punishment instead of going to jail she is less than thrilled. She doesn’t need a selfish guy hanging out bringing newshounds around to stir up trouble. Cal has a bum knee that he is sure will get better in time for another year of playing football. He is rather self absorbed and selfish until he spends a bit of time working with the youth at Frankie’s center and then he becomes a much more well rounded person or perhaps lets others see his true self. Of course there will be a romance and it is a good one BUT this story also provides side stories of youth in the program and what they are facing, big life decisions for Cal and Frankie to make and also a scuzzy guy who really needs to be taken down before he hurts others. Within the first few pages of this book I was hooked and could not put it down till the story ended. I am eager to read more in this series and wonder who will have his story told next.

Well, this book was an adventure. Fast-paced, full of action and intrigue and of course romance. Since this is the first book I have read in the series, I really enjoyed the camaraderie of the Donovan family. The story also reflects the real-life corruption that is standard on most law enforcement agencies. I'd love to get my hands on the earlier releases and the upcoming ones in this series.

Delaney Spencer has a secret. She left her life as Chantal behind and locked all of her past away behind a cupboard door. She has a new life that fits her well but when Sam McCabe arrives in town with his guardians, the children of her deceased lover, her life could and very likely will change in big ways. Will she be able to hang onto her “self”? Will she find a way to help Sam be a better caretaker of the children entrusted to him? Will she and Sam end up with a happily ever after of their own? Well, of course they will! But, it is not smooth sailing, there are some big problems dealt with and a great deal of growth to be undertaken. This book dealt with some heavy and rather deep subjects and did so with a deft touch. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Delaney, Sam, Rennie and Leo and came away thinking that in spite of the pain the people in this book experienced they were still open to change and a positive future.

Can’t Stand the Heat by Margaret Watson
Otter Tail #2

Jen Summers has put her past behind her…or so she thinks…until Walker Barnes walks in to be in a wedding she is a bridesmaid in, too. With two sons so very different, an ex-husband who now a cop in a big city and dreams of owning her own restaurant she has a lot on her plate. Walker, the person she would wish to do things differently with, sees something at the reception that has him hanging on in town longer than he had planned. Why? He wants to find out one thing about Jen and her family that could change all of their lives forever.

I loved this second chance love story and the way it unfolded. Walker and Jen were teenagers that made a “mistake” that changed three lives…possibly four…and yet the “mistake” may have actually been a blessing rather than a curse depending on how it is looked at.

I know that reading a book by this author will be a treat and this one was just that.

An Unlikely Setup by Margaret Watson
Otter Tail #1

Maddie needs money – LOTS of money! And, an inheritance from her godfather just might see her able to pay back the huge loans weighing heavily on her shoulders. Sure, she made unwise choices investing but with the income from a pub and house she should be fine, right?

Little did she realize that returning to Otter Tail would bring back so many memories, put her face to face with someone she once had a crush on and make her start weighing up what she really wants from life.

Quinn Murphy also is back in town after years away. His past haunts him and the pub he believes will soon be his is his salvation. When he finds out that Maddie owns it he is sure she will sell to him not realizing she wants and needs top dollar. It is soon apparent that he might not have what she needs - monetarily or emotionally.

Maddie and Quinn tap dance around feelings, do a bit of sharing, tend to be impulsive with words and reticent with feelings so finding a way for them to achieve a HEA is not easy.

Add in some friends in the making for Maddie, some people with anger issues lurking in the wings and some men wanting to cash in on the sale of property now in Maddie’s hands and you have a well written, fast paced story that left me eager to read the next book in this series.

Fiona is the last triplet to find her HEA in a second chance at love romance with her high school sweetheart. I wondered about this couple when hints were made in the first books of the series and wanted to know what had happened in their backstory. All three of the sisters had daddy-issues but with a father like theirs it would be amazing not to!

Fiona had the childhood dream of becoming a jewelry designer and making it big. Her mother supported her but died too soon. Her need to succeed superseded her love for Jackson Grant, or so he thought. They were both heartbroken after they parted but moved on with their lives although they still cared for one another. When they meet again after over a decade Grant is divorced with two children and a veterinarian while Fiona has made a name for herself making jewelry - they have achieved their dreams but are not fulfilled. The story has ups and downs that deal with the past, the twins, Bree’s son Charlie, a natural disaster and a bit of a disaster or two between the couple. Jackson is tough but eventually the two manage to get their HEA.

Thank you to the author for the ARC – this is my honest review.
