This was a great memoir. For two women to traverse the length of Africa on a motorcycle today would be impressive. The fact that this happened in the 1930s makes it even more so. Keep in mind that they weren't just the first women to accomplish this, but the first people, period. Very few roads were in place and they had lots of diplomatic hangups as no one ever thought they could make it to the next outpost or village. They had many breakdowns and came up with some ingenious fixes for them, at times even using chewing gum to fix broken seals. One would have hoped for more details about many parts of the journey but this memoir was written many years later, and the editor attempts to fill in some of the gaps.
