Summary:
This story takes place in Kenya, Africa and is told by Wambui. Wambui is a young girl who feels she is about to lose her sister, because her sister is getting married. Wambui tells us about the traditions before a marriage ceremony. One custom is for the groom to take his parents with him to ask for the hand in marriage of the bride. If the brides parents accept the groom must give an offering of 40 cows to her family. Then they celebrate by singing Kiriro songs for eight days. Wangari the bride will receive gifts from all of her friends. Wambui says on the tenth day Wangari goes back home to receive her parents blessing. On the day of the wedding wich is a surprise to the bride they take her to be married. Wambui is happy for her sister, but sad that she will no longer live at home with her.

Personal Reflection:
It was a good story about traditions about a marriage in Kenya. The pictures also tell a story if you pay close attention. The pictures were very detailed. It seems to me that the author knew exactly what she was talking about as she told us the customs. At the end of the story they tell us facts about Kenya and their customs.

Classroom Extensions:
1. When studying about cultures, this would be a great book to read to the kids. It will show them that many cultures have different traditions when it comes to weddings.
2. After reading this book I can have the children write about their famiy's wedding traditions.
