Whispering Bones is not normally something I would pick up to read, because part of the story was set back in 1576 and 1927. I read very few historical books normally but Whispering Bones called out to me, begging to be read, and it did not let me down. It was a very intriguing read.

Anna was a strong, defined character. She has been through a lot of hardships in her life, but she never let that get the best of her. She worked hard to be the women she was and did the things that needed to be done.

I loved all the twists and turns of Whispering Bones. Especially the one on how Anna was connected to the island. While reading, I got the feeling that Anna had some kind of connection to the island and what happened there, but I was surprised on how it was connected. It was not something I would have guess and I loved how it kept you guessing until the end.

Sometimes when books jump around to past events it is easy to get lost, but with Whispering Bones I enjoyed how flashed from 1576, to 1927, to the present day. It gave you the background story that you needed at the right times. With some novels I find that I want more background infomation, but with
Whispering Bones it gave me what I wanted and more.

Whispering Bones was the first book I have read by Rita Vetere, and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. I found Whispering Bones to be a wonderful read, that kept my attention until the very end.

Catherine Caldwell was in art restoration. She was in love with Matthew who knew her like no one else had ever known her. She was taking him home to meet her Granddad, for heaven's sake! Her birthday approaching, she receives an exquisite statue of the Archangel Michael to add to her collection, a gift from the Grandfather in Louisiana.

In a terrible accident which killed her grandmother and mother, Catherine was the sole surivior. Saved by her grandfather, Alan, she was whisked away to life in the bayou of Louisiana. Grandpa was in 'way over his head - during WWII he was visited by Michael in an abandoned chirch where he was entrusted with the keeping of the Spear of Longius, the sword that pierced Christ's side at His death. He had kept it hidden all these years in preparation of explaining and giving it over to it's next keeper - Catherine. Sammael intervenes before Catherine arrives and Alan is killed.

Sammael was there at the Crucifixion. He was there many, many times in the service of evil. He might be Michael's brother, but they were complete opposites. He wants Catherine badly and even more wants the Spear.

Join them in a race for good vs. evil; love ruined and regained; and a wonderful book! I really enjoyed this read. The characters were well done, the story kept my attention better than most and it just was a delight to read.
