I started this story about a week or so ago and initially it started strong and I was interested. Then it weaned about half way through. Took me a little longer than normal to finish this story. The ending did pick up with action and made it a positive finish.

It starts with following Suzy, a widowed woman with two grown children. She's lost her husband and is struggling to continue the business they started. They collected art works from indigenous cultures and sold them for exorbitant prices to high society. However they were fair buyers and paid what the work was worth and would share back any profits they made above what they thought. However this time around the shipment for the Christmas season won't make it in time.

In walks Alex, a man she dated briefly after her husband died, to save the day. Alex is a pilot who owns a couple of cargo planes who flies in her stock and saves her store and the season! However our little Suzy is not ready to be wooed by Alex again. Instead she chooses to go on a spiritual quest to re-discover herself. Evenutally they come back together and form a new spiritual family in Africa. That's all I'm telling you about that!

This is a very spiritualistic story that touches on the finer points of major and minor dogma and doctrines. I'll credit the author, Sharon Tilloston, with her research and ability to weave her characters personalities into their beliefs. The ideas she puts forth regarding reincarnation and soul families is intriguing and I enjoyed reading those bits. However, eventually the entire story becomes this constant search for meaning and Spirit. Although I have no issues with this and often go on my on tangents regarding religion and faith I didn't expect that this story would turn to a bit of a preach.

Not preach in the typical sense of a pulpit, bible thumping and hell burning stories. But more in the way that life has no meaning unless you seek to connect with Spirit and put your life in service to others. At least this what I took from the author's words.

In an interesting way the author was able to weave stories of past lives with the current life's struggles. A narrative was played out by Suzy's soul, up waiting in the ether with the other souls. This narrative introduces Suzy's previous lives and also shows the steps and encouragements of Suzy's current path. This unique twist to the story helped to break up and put into perspective some of the spiritualistic teachings that the characters spun around themselves and worked out to explain the progress of their lives.

It is a good read for those who are currently on a spiritual quest, or looking for new ideas to place within their own doctrines and beliefs. However if you're looking for an easy read this is too much of a thinker for that.

The Storyteller by Sharon Tillotson is the spiritual and thought provoking tale of Suzy on her path to self discovery. After the death of her husband, Suzy is left trying to figure out who she is and what it is that she wants from life. Her business is doing the best it has done in years, she has reconnected with her two children, and all in all things are looking like they couldn’t be better. Yet Suzy feels that something is missing, and through a series of self help seminars, she realizes what it is that she wants to do. She takes off to Africa to begin opening a foundation to help spread the message of ULove, or Universal Love.

The Storyteller jumps around in content, as the reader embarks on the journey of Sarah who is a Soul and is the guiding force in Suzy’s life. Sarah happens to be a storyteller and tells about some of her previous reincarnations throughout different chapters. There were a few spots that seemed to be sluggish and were drawn out during the retelling of Sarah’s reincarnations which were a little tiring at times. They quickly pick back up, especially in the telling of Suzy’s story and it all comes together nicely. There are several thought provoking concepts throughout the book, and don’t really follow one line of religion or the other. I found this refreshing because even though it is religious, the story doesn’t follow just one path, which really helped prove the point of Universal Love. If you want a spiritual read that will make you sit back and re-examine your own life, then The Storyteller by Sharon Tillotson is for you.
