Courte biographie
The Rev. Andrew C. Thompson is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and teaches at Memphis Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. He earned the Doctor of Theology degree from Duke University. Dr. Thompson’s scholarly work focuses on the thought of John Wesley, the history of early Methodism, and contemporary Wesleyan theology.

Dr. Thompson’s academic writing has appeared in Methodist History, the Wesleyan Theological Journal, Methodist Review and the Asbury Journal. He is also the editor and lead contributor for Generation Rising: A Future With Hope for the United Methodist Church (Abingdon Press, 2011).

In addition to his academic writing, Dr. Thompson also writes regularly for church audiences. For several years, he wrote a column for the United Methodist Reporter, which won the Award of Excellence by the Associated Church Press. At present he writes columns for both the Wesleyan Accent website and the Arkansas United Methodist newspaper. He also writes a blog on this website.

Prior to his appointment to the faculty at Memphis Theological Seminary, Dr. Thompson served as the pastor of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Henderson, North Carolina (2008-2010), as the associate pastor of First United Methodist Church in Searcy, Arkansas (2003-2006), and as a campus minister at Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee (2001-2003). He also served for six years on the staff of the Duke Youth Academy for Christian Formation as a ministry coordinator. Currently, he serves as the Pastor of Discipleship at Marion United Methodist Church in Marion, Arkansas.

Originally from Paragould, Arkansas, Andrew and his wife, Emily, are parents to Alice, Stuart, and Anna Charlotte.
