The memories of Aron Rabinovich, Teplish’s grandfather are told by the author and illustrated in graphic novel format. It tells of Aron’s life growing up in Odessa when it was invaded by Axis forces in the second world war, and his struggles and survival in spite of Nazi military, police, officials and their sympathizers in the occupied territories. It also records the help he received from occasional civilians and official blunders, as well as betrayals by other civilians encouraged by the Nazis.

Illustrated in appropriately somber colors, the illustrated story is based on Aron’s video interview for the Shoah Foundation, “founded by Steven Spielberg to preserve the stories told by still-living survivors of the Holocaust. All experiences illustrated in this book are translations of Aron’s recollections as told in his native Russian.”

This is followed by forty-three pages of Historical Components which give context and the historical background of Aron’s story and the Holocaust.

It’s a gripping book of the horrors of the past century and should also provide the reader with the history of the same dangerous ideologies that persist in this century.… (plus d'informations)
