Another great story to talk about the significance that Black communities have had on American culture. In 6th grade, you discuss the Harlem Renaissance, so I think this would be a fun and interactive way to preface this lesson.

Loved the harlem story and again was a text set book. I would recommend in many forms in the classroom. I think there are so many significant pieces to Harlem that build more awareness and respect for such a cool place.

Taylor tells the story of a Youngblood clarinet player, who's trying desperately to find his uncle's hat for a photograph. Hi sunshine Uncle I a about famous jazz clarinet player in Harlem, and husband picture USB being taken for a jazz magazine. While searching for his hat, C.J. finds a crowd of jazz artists that also want to be in the jazz magazine photograph. The story was inspired by a real picture Taylor saw of a large group of famous jazz musicians on the steps of a brownstone in Harlem. The photo included little kids sitting on the sidewalk, and Taylor decided to create a story for one of them. He story is very cute, and I LOVED the illustrations. The art style is mesmerizing and colorful, and it so effectively shows the action and life of Harlem. I genuinely enjoyed this story, but only wish there was a bit more to it. I wish there was a bit more character building in the story, but otherwise it was fantastic!… (plus d'informations)
