After her long-time boyfriend Derek leaves her for a younger woman, 40-year-old Nancy Myers purchases some bare land in a small South Island town. She packs up and moves out of the city with the intention of building a house facing the stunning view of the Southern Alps. In the meantime, she gets hold of a 1973 bright pink bus to renovate and live in. Supporting her are family friend 80-year-old Margot, phone-a-friend Hanita, and 18-year-old niece Skye who is on a gap year cycling overseas. Then there is the ‘ghost’ of Derek, always ready with a nasty remark or put-down for Nancy. And, then there is Angus, the neighbour who caught her skinny-dipping in his stream. His life is complicated, the subdivision he and his parents are planning is complicated and may affect Nancy’s view, his ex is also complicated, but when he offers Nancy much needed work on his property, she takes up his offer as her funds are being depleted at a rapid rate and her carpentry business is yet to take off. A great read with some quite funny bits. Not quite as humorous or as good as books by fellow New Zealand author Danielle Hawkins, but in the same genre.… (plus d'informations)
