When a ladder appears mysteriously, Kevin declares that he will be the first to go up it, even though he wasn't the first to see it. Fox worries that if there are strawberry donuts at the top, they'll miss out. But when Kevin gets to the top, he calls for all his friends, a quirky crew including "Top Duck" (a duck wearing a top hat). Lots of white space allows readers to focus on the characters and the action, and consider whether they like to go first or be the caboose, and what's fair.
