Being, ostensibly, a history of the final season in their original city for the six established (this leaves out the poor old Pilots again) baseball teams who moved away to other cities in the decades after World War II. This is a great idea which isn't carried out too well. Each chapter begins with a lengthy summary of the team's history, which will be review for nearly anybody interested enough in baseball to pick up such a specialized book. Quite a bit more on point is the following, even lengthier section summarizing the team's on-field performance that season, but it is difficult to make brief summaries of games interesting, and the author's pedestrian style doesn't help. As for what one would want to be the first priority of such a book, the off-field negotiations, financial considerations, and the voice of players and fans, they are almost totally missing from some chapters and in others are granted a few paragraphs. It is also very clear that the book was unedited; apostrophe and homonym errors abound, and names are misspelled so routinely that there are often several different spellings of the same name on the same page.… (plus d'informations)
