Ridiculous book. Bad language. Good books don’t need cursing in them. Maybe someone likes it but I’m not interested in 1 night stands described in a book. No plot, just dates, if you can call them that. Definitely won’t be wasting my time on this author again. I’ve learned this actually came from a blog.

Well I thought at first this was going to be a fictionalized story of one woman's dating life with her grandmother by her side. However, after I received the book I was surprised to find that "Granny is my Wingman" is a blog by Kayli Stollak and she is actually a memoir of her dating life in New York after she broke up with her long-time boyfriend.

First things first, I found this to be a funny book. Ms. Stollak manages to strike the right tone between funny, and wistful about what could have been between her and her ex. I also love that she pulls no punches about how she spiraled after the relationship ended and how she was still finding her footing in her personal and professional life. When she ultimately comes to the conclusion that she needs to get back out there and start to date once again (after being pushed to do so by her Granny) online dating seems to be the easiest thing to do. She and her Granny both decide to start dating again and cheer each other on throughout their dating escapades.

Frankly I would love to meet some of these guys that Kayli and her grandmother went out with. They sound like the crazier brothers of the guys I had a misfortune of meeting through Eharmony and OKCupid as well.

The main reason why I did not give this a full five stars was that even though each chapter is quick and to the point and Ms. Stollak provides sufficient details sometimes I wish she slow down in her storytelling so as a reader I got more of a chance to submerge myself in the cast of characters we were meeting. Ms. Stollak remarks about her mother and sister but we don't really get a chance to know them since she focuses all of her attention on her grandmother's backstory and her (Ms. Stollak's personal life). I felt like her mother and sister were merely cardboard caricatures which would have been nice to get to know. Also she rapidly runs through all of the guys she is meeting but choosing to linger on some of them and not all.

I do know that some readers out there may not find the subject matter to their liking since there are sexual situations depicted within the reading and also some details about affairs that went on. I would say if that is not your cup of tea just skip this book and move on to something else.

I really recommend this and based on how it ends I doubt we will see a sequel anytime soon but am looking forward to reading more writing by Ms. Stollak in the future.

Please note that I received this novel for free via the Amazon Vine Program.

Pretty good for a freebie from Amazon unlimited. It made me giggle and laugh as these two navigated the online dating world. I enjoyed that the 24 year old and her 75 year old grandmother compared online dating experiences and supported each other through distance and odd dates. I was supposed to read a biography fir book club and somehow found this little memoir of six months in Kayli's life.

My first thought when I read the description of Granny Is My Wingman by Kayli Stollak was of my own grandmother She was certainly not the cookie baking, moralizing type that many have experienced in their own lives. She was strikingly beautiful, could outwork any man alive on her farm, then dress up for a night out and turn every head in the place. She too, was married, but while I have no confirmation of my suspicions, I have always believed that she had a fling or two over the years. Her nickname was Tiger Lil'.

So, when I saw this book, even though it is outside my typical reading choices, I knew that I had to to read it. Kayli is blessed to have her no nonsense, no holds barred granny at her side. The wild romps and adventures, or perhaps misadventures they experienced while deciding to embark in online dating and its results and consequences had many laugh out loud moments. Despite all the laughs, the bond they forged while sharing this experience doubtless enhances both of their lives and brought them closer than most family members from such different generations.

It isn't all fun and games, there are some more serious and touching moments, but for the most part, this is a fun ride along with the experiences of a young girl recovering from losing her first love and her grandmother who decides to teach her the ropes of life, while she learns the ins and outs ( and ups and downs ) of internet dating. This book has drawn a lot of attention from the media, and in my opinion, it was well deserved. A three star rating means I'm glad I read this book, and hope that you will give it a look, too.
