Interesting book sharing the author's experiences and considerations on leadership- both in the military (focus on peacekeeping) and in business, with detailed "cameos" from his period in Bosnia in the early 1990s.

Specifically interesting is the chapter on crisis management (and contingency planning), as well as all the other section here and there on what could be collected under the cover "prepare before you claim to lead".

A short book but worth reading, also because highlights how the need is really to always adopt a "systemic approach" while preparing and analyzing, but then shift to what paradigm is most appropriate- including, if needed to obtain focus (moreover when there are limited resources), "tunnel vision" in execution (but retaining somebody to watch at the larger picture)

It is also quite interesting the approach on delegation and information through the ranks when each and every one of those involved could impact on the reaction of the environment (e.g. a single mis-behaving soldier could alienate the local so much that all the previous "hearts&minds" initiatives are considered just a ploy)
