This is one book I am keeping after reviewing it. It is gorgeous with all of the pictures and very informative about collectable eggs. This would be a perfect gift for someone interested in such a collection. Excellent photography.

I received this in exchange for an honest review. This isn’t my typical read, but I did have much more fun with this than expected. I had originally requested only because I worked with an individual who is completely obsessed with clowns. He really liked it a lot and spent hours looking at it.

I had fun comparing the clowns to photos of the real life versions, these are pretty amazing in how much clown eggs reflect the original. I had no idea there were so many well known clowns. I would love to try to make one of these. My only complaint is the physical size of the book, a bit small, about the size of a trade paperback.

I am so glad I saw this on here. My client, a developmentally disabled man, spent hours sharing this book with his friends and family. I have many wonderful pictures of him and this book, he sadly passed away in June.

The Clown Egg Register by Luke Stephenson and Helen Champion is a delightful and colorful book. The book contains more than 150 high quality images of egg portraits of clowns registered. Some egg portraits even have a small blurb about the clown.

This book would make a lovely coffee table book to have on display. I enjoyed flipping through it and sharing the different images of the egg portraits with family members nearby. It was quite entertaining and family members enjoyed pointing out clowns they recognized from their youth.

I was impressed by the binding, page quality, and thoughtfulness put into the design and presentation of the book. The spine is colorful and embodies the beautiful essence of fun and clowns.

I greatly enjoyed the blurbs about the clowns and learning about the culture and lives of clowns. So many of the clowns included led very interesting lives. I also enjoyed learning how many clowns mentioned were connected in one way or another to each other; like the families in the clown and circus business.

I only wished more of the clowns pictured had blurbs as well. I also would have liked some longer blurbs because I became so enthralled by the performers.

Definitely recommend as a fun and quirky book to read and flip through for fun!

The Clown Register is an unexpectably cool book! No interest in circuses or clowns required to enjoy it. Now who would not enjoy reading about clowns? Yes, it puts a smile on your face just thinking about it. A fun book for everyone, it's full of warm, fascinating, and very personal, even historical stories.
"It is an unwritten rule among clowning that no clown should copy another clown's look. As such, the Clown Egg Register acts as the record of copyright for the carefully designed faces of the members of Clowns International," the authors explain in the first sentence.
This little book is includes more than 150 different clowns in the official Clown Egg Register, often recounting biographical information and other personal information for each one. The clown is introduced on one page with his clown character’s name and story, with the clown egg is on the opposite page.
The Introduction explains that The Clown Egg Register began in the mid-1940's, with the clown faces painted on eggshells. Fragile as they were, they are now painted on ceramic eggs. There are now three different 'egg artists' and it can take up to three days to paint a single egg.
If you happen to be in England and want to see The Clown Egg Register, most of them are at Wookey Hole's Clowns' Museum in Somerset. There is a small number kept at Holy Trinity Church in Dalston, East London where there is a commemorative service for the godfather of clowning, Joseph Grimaldi, every year on the first Sunday in February—attended by clowns in full costume. The authors explain that's why Holy Trinity's alternative name is The Clowns' Church.
