Klaus Speicher

I bought this book to learn more about the many types of canaries. Canaries are generally bred either for song or for type -- that is, the many characteristics such as color, feather type, and posture. Unfortunately, only the last chapter -- a little less than half of the 93 pages -- contains the sort of type-by-type description of canaries. (The rest of the book contains mostly breeding information of the sort which can be found in any book on canaries.) The descriptions were very useful, though often hard to follow. While there were a number of nice photos, they were not picked to illustrate the points Speicher was trying to make. I think in large part this probably had to do with the expense of reproducing images in 1979. I'd also like to read a book which talks more about the history of these breeds. In any event, I'd still like to read a book on canary breeds, since this didn't quite do it for me -- perhaps a book more geared for U.S. audiences as well.… (plus d'informations)
