Society of Friends of the Imperial Museum

The Petrópolis area was the summer residence of the Brazilian Emperors and aristocrats in the 19th century, and was the official capital for the state of Rio de Janeiro between 1894 and 1902. The Museu Imperial de Petrópolis is housed at the former summer palace of the emperor, Pedro II (1831-1889), built in 1845; the area is now the historic center of Petrópolis with numerous historic sites opened for visitors. This booklet is small, English only, and documents only the highlights of the core museum, the history of the royal family including a family tree, and the crown jewels. (The museum also hosts rotating art exhibits.) I had really enjoyed this unique imperial museum, since no other modern country in this continent had a recent imperial family. Given photos were not allowed, this modest booklet still serves the purpose of providing a good memory reminder.… (plus d'informations)
