This book will stay with me for a long time. It conveys the horror of the holocaust at a very personal level like no other book I've ever read. Impossible to review; if there were more stars available, I'd give it all the stars. To echo another reviewer, everyone should read this book.

One of the most literate and articulate memoirs of survival in the Nazi concentration camps I've read. It is beautifully done, terrifying, morally demanding and far more vivid than many accounts I've read. The description of life before the Nazi invasion was utterly convincing, and I could imagine living in that idyllic little village. Text is interspersed with the author's poetical imagery. A book written after decades of silence, and well worth waiting for.
