Despite reading this book fairly quickly, it took me a bit to get into it. I think the scene was too gritty and heartbreaking for me to thoroughly enjoy. I thought the main character was well written with her many flaws out in the open for all the world to see. A shame what happened to some of my favorites in the book. You'd like to see a nice resolution for them, but alas. The novel ended well. Thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I received a free advance e-copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ‘Black Hills’ gives the reader a look at the dark underbelly of society in a fracking boomtown in South Dakota. This book is full of despicable characters, drugs, hookers, sex, murder, greed, betrayal, secrets, lies, corruption, violence, and a conspiracy. Alice, the main character is extremely flawed but she has chutzpa. Some characters seem to be the scum of the earth. This is an action packed thriller full of twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. ‘Black Hills’ is a well-written novel with an extremely dark plot and well-developed, dark characters. This book is well worth the read for anyone who likes a dark and dirty read. I look forward to reading more from this brother and sister team.… (plus d'informations)

There were parts of this book that were really hilarious, (especially that Abraham character. . .)but the boring parts were realllllly boring.
The review on the cover of the book describes it as a literary rant . . . and that is a fitting description. Whenever the author was describing a work place, or a co-worker it was always very witty and funny; when he got to the 'rant' part, it was basically him trying to justify the fact that he was too lazy to hold down a job and trying to convince the reader that there was some other justification.
Overall, a funny read but definitely not for those looking for deep reading . . . (I actually thought he would give some good critiques of America/labor laws etc. . . but it was pretty lax in that department)
