This engaging book makes you think! So many math activities can be applied with this book- decomposition of numbers, simple addition, and even multiplication!
I thought this was a great way to introduce young readers to counting. The illustrations by Randy Cecil really help students who are visual learners get a grip on how to add multiples of 2, 3, 6, etc.
I chose to tag gender neutral with this books because they do have what appears to be a young boy on the beach but refers to him as a person. That was the only person illustrated. The rest of the story is told with other animals and insects. The illustration as a whole is simple, colorful, and inviting.
