I read a review for this book on another blog site and it came highly recommended from a friend so I thought I would give it a try. It looked intriguing but I wasn't one-hundred percent sure if I was going to really like this one or not. Right away I noticed how very good the writing was and I became completely absorbed in the tale. I looked up the author and was pretty shocked to see that this was her first book. Well, I'd already known that from the review I read but once I started reading I thought that must be a mistake. Surely this can't be the authors first book since it is so very well written but yep it was and I truly hope she will continue to write. I can only imagine how truly great this author can become after such a fantastic debut.

This review has been very hard for me to write. Normally I love to drone on about all of the things that I find awesome in a book such as the characters, the storyline and uhm...well I can't really say anything else. See what I mean? This is a hard one to write for one simple reason. I don't want to give anything away and I cannot find a single way to address anything that I would like to without ruining some part of the story for you and this is one story I do not want to ruin. It's just one of those books that you have to experience for yourself. Doing anything less will just ruin it for you.

What I can say though is that this book just felt very genuine to me. I could be in the minority on this but I really think that depends on what type of person you are. Are you the type of person that sees the cup half full or the type who sees it as half empty? I'm the type of person who doesn't care whether it's half full or if it's half empty. I'm happy as long as I have a good cup to get a drink with. So to me the tale felt very real. Even though this tale has been told so many times before, it doesn't really matter. What's important is how the tale is told and this one was done beautifully with such a unique voice. The writing was superb, heartbreaking, tense, heartwarming and sweet. The characters were rich and had a great deal of depth. The story literally kept me glued to my kindle for every single moment that I read.

There was plenty of drama for me in this book (I'm a huge drama junkie when it comes to books, not so much in real life) and it was a bit of a dark tale but with plenty of light around the edges like going into a dark tunnel only to finally reach the light at the end. I'd love to say more, I really want to. There's so much I'd like to discuss about this book but can't. You'll just have to take my word for it or better yet grab a sample and see for yourself. This was actually more of a novella but it felt like a full sized novel to me. I'm extremely happy that I bought this book and I'm very much looking forward to reading more from this author. Let me start by saying that I was one of the pre-readers for this novella, so you can either take this review at face value (and I'm honestly writing it as such) or see is as biased. Trust that there were several mini arguments *cough* plot discussions *cough* accompanying the process.

Kris is one hell of a writer, and her way with words is truly unique, special and more often than not, touching.

In Duplicity we are faced with Lilith, a young woman who along with her two best friends, suffered a trauma as a high school student. As life takes us in so many different directions, so have Lilith's life, and she chose to support her friend in her studies, as well as emotionally, by working the oldest profession in the world.

Novellas are most of the time very lacking; whether in plot details or emotional depth or even how well we get to know the characters. Duplicity, in my opinion, is not lacking. We get the good, the bad and the ugly, and we get it all wrapped up in a lyrical story, beautifully developed and very well written.… (plus d'informations)
