Because I work in the "lifestyle" department, I often receive free books from authors looking for publicity. This was one of those books. The only thing I wrote in my book diary was "it was OK -- I was happy in the end because it was over."

I once heard an airline pilot describe his typical day as, "Seven hours, 53 minutes of sheer boredom spiced with seven minutes of sheer terror."

Larry Sager could probably say the same. During the 1990s, he drove a taxi cab nights in San Francisco. Rated as the most dangerous job in the United States, hacking is not without its merits. His hacking career was a colorful parade of rich, poor, tourists, hookers, johns, gang members, transvestites, muggers, drunks, no-shows, and non-pays. The snippets of their lives captured by the author add humor and drama to his well-written tale.

Yet, when one comes right done to it, this is still a hacking tale - "seven hours, 53 minutes of sheer boredom spiced with seven minutes of sheer terror."
