He used his diaries that he had kept throughout the war as the basis for this book. There are many stories of the antics that the pilots took part in to forget the stress and terror of flying. He tells us about many of the encounters he and his colleagues had with the German fliers. The anecdotes are entertaining if a bit repetitive and give the reader a snapshot of what it was like to fly a Spitfire in combat in WW II.
