Jack Rudloe

A pleasant narrative of a collector of marine life for purposes of teaching and scientific research. Starting as a recent bio grad student dropout in the gulf coast of Florida, he learned his trade as he went. Working closely with shrimp fishermen and others, he learned while helping them and sorting through their detritus for the critters he needed for his clients.

This book has a chapter on horseshoe crabs, which have always fascinated me. They are over 200 million years old. They are found only on the Atlantic coast. And they are completely harmless, in case you were curious.

I really loved this book. I am a huge fan of turtles and I loved learning more about turtles. The authors talks about traveling to find this turtles rock. His adventures were just very interesting to me. I loved going along on his adventure to try to find this rock while learning about turtles and the different islands that worship them. If you love marine science and or turtles you would love to read this book.

A well-balanced glimpse into the natural science of marine and freshwater life.
