- He was baptized by Barton W. Stone. John Rogers was one of the earliest gospel preachers of the Restoration Movement. He, along with "Raccoon" John Smith, traveled throughout the land to tell the brotherhood about the merging forces of the Campbell Disciples and the Stone Christian movements. Rogers was the editor of the autobiography of Barton W. Stone. He was a prolific writer, and capable minister of the gospel. He came from a family of Gospel Preachers. His brother Samuel Rogers was also a great gospel preacher, and greatly beloved by all who knew him. Also, his nephews, John I. Rogers and W.C. Rogers were preachers.
