Blood and Water is an interesting first novel by Cole Pitcher. It is a pretty good thriller. The book begins with a husband and teenage daughter arriving in Spain and being dropped off at a house where they are supposed to meet the wife. They enter the house and find the wife and her lover murdered. The police arrive and discover the daughter holding the murder weapon and arrest both of them. The daughter is being charged with murder. There is another story going on in the background regarding a former CIA Special Activities agent is working a private job in the same area. This former agent is being hunted for by the CIA. She is working to break up a Russian Mafia ring that is operating in Spain related to her previous CIA work in Russia.

Another story line is an internal power fight between the Operations Chief and the CIA Director that involves the Defense Department Secretary and the president and an upcoming presidential election. The Operations Chief is trying to eliminate the former agent over her disappearance in Russia and her knowledge of the past lives of the Operation Chief and the Secretary of Defense.

This novel does a good job of keeping these story lines interesting and eventually ties them all together for a rather dramatic conclusion. I would recommend this book to Thriller genre fans.

Boy howdy. Do I think there is a good somewhere in here— yes. And it’s told in the first story arc in two pages. Very cool, interesting, fancy people, crime happening in an undisclosed location and all very bringing in the reader. Then the story shifts, and all that good and interest the reader put in, is gone.

There are about 7 too many characters that offer not a lot to what is already a very confusing book. I appreciate the very fleshed out world. Here! Cape Verde! The Windies! Everywhere! It’s all very glamorous, and flashy but it’s not a well written story.

It’s weird to be in a royal carribean ad, with random sports facts? It’s all a very hot mess, and even reading and rereading, I just don’t understand it. I looked at other reviews and I feel like even now I couldn’t tell you what that book was about but I’m disappointed I didn’t get any kind of resolution on the really interesting first story in the book.
