Climate Change, Land Use and Monetary Policy: The New Trifecta by Geraldine Perry is an expertly written and researched book that centers around the changing climate, pollution, and the economy. The book begins with a background of our climate and agriculture on earth, including the history of farming, soil use, and The Dust Bowl. Also covered are topics of pollution, carcinogens, acid rain, freshwater contamination, and fracking. Especially interesting was the history of hemp and the green alternatives to oil and gas. Further, the problems of malnutrition, loss of nutrients in food crops, and world hunger were discussed, as well as possible solutions to these problems. Beyond the examination of climate change, the book also digs into the root of the trouble—an economy that is debt dominant. Readers will learn about the history of American economics, from the time of Jefferson and Hamilton, and how that history has an impact on today’s society, Wall Street, and national debt.

This is a topic I feel strongly about, so I did read this book carefully, noting not only the historical background of climate and our economy, but also the possible solutions author Geraldine Perry proposes. While green energy is expensive, some changes in our overall economy would be helpful and bring us into a new age with new energy that is not reliant on fossil fuels. The author also explains the boom and bust cycles, the history of paper money, and how Americans think we can create wealth through debt. All of this leads to a terrific conclusion that ties climate and economics together. Climate Change, Land Use and Monetary Policy: The New Trifecta is an illuminating must-read that includes a wealth of information about climate change and the economy.
