This creative story is about Katy, the kangaroo, who is crying at the beginning of the story. She is a mother to Freddy but she doesn't have a pocket like other kangaroos to carry Freddy around in. She is so distraught wondering how to take care of Freddy. She decides to go ask other animals such as a crocodile, a monkey, lions, and birds. However she tries their suggestions such as carry Freddy on her back, hold Freddy in her arms, have Freddy walk behind her, or push Freddy out of a nest so he can fly, but none of these ideas work. Next she, goes to see owl who tells her head to the city. Once in the city, she finds a man that is covered in pockets. She asks the man where he got all of his pockets and he tells her that it is an apron and it has all different size pockets to hold all different things. He dumps everything out of his apron and ties the apron on Katy. Katy is so happy to have finally found a solution to hold her son, Freddy. When she got back home, she realized that she had lots of other pockets to hold other animal friends. So that's exactly what she did!… (plus d'informations)

Katy is a sad kangaroo because she has no pocket in which to carry her baby son Freddy. She asks other mother animals how they carry their young, but none of those ways help her any. Finally, an owl directs her to visit the city to look for a pocket.

This is a cute and humorous book about a mother desperately trying to properly keep her son nearby, often meeting problems along the way. It is a fun way to talk to children about animals and the way they care for the young, even though there are obviously fantastical elements to this book.

The illustrations, done by famed author/illustrator H.A. Rey, are reminiscent of Rey's well-known style from the Curious George books. They help to show kids what is being discussed in the book, but they don't vary much from the text, thereby not adding more details. Nevertheless, they fit well with the spirit of the book.
