Detective Gwen Jamison is one determined lady! She is great at solving crimes and closing cases but there is one case she has yet to solve because her captain forced her to back off. Lately there has been a string of liquor store robberies which has left one woman dead and one witness who is on the run. She feels that her unsolved case and the robberies are linked but can she convince the new boss to get behind her in that assessment. Ian McKean lost his wife a few years ago and wants to make a new start. He takes the job as Lieutenant in Shorewick, Arizona as head of the detectives. He knew he’d have his hands full with Gwen, as the previous lieutenant had briefed him about her, but he was unprepared for the attraction for her. Gwen is determined to solve the robberies and get a conviction no matter what. Ian is in the difficult position of wanting to support Gwen but also be the boss. With their tenuous relationship, can they work toward getting that conviction and perhaps explore that growing attraction.

Another well written story by Anne Patrick. It will grab you from the beginning and keep you turning pages until the end. It was really a nice balance of danger, suspense and romance. Gwen was someone I wasn’t sure I was going to like but I really grew to like and understand her. Ian was a good guy who had faced some difficulties in his life. The story line was well done and you’ll find yourself cheering on our lead pair in solving the robberies. The faith element was well done and realistic. Ian was a man of faith and was an a good influence in Gwen’s life because she had pretty much lost her faith. That’s important to remember in our own lives; be a good influence on others lives. If you enjoy a good story that’s hard to put down then you will love this one…unless you’re “Cold Blooded”!

Some favorite quotes:

“God answers all prayers, Gwen. Maybe not in our timing or the way we want them answered, but according to his will”

“I know it may have seemed that way, but everything in our past happened for a reason. We may never know why or understand it but there was a purpose. And God always places people in our path who are there to guide and help us.”

“I don’t have all the answers, Gwen. No one does. But I know, without a doubt, that God loves you and will always be there for you during both the good and bad times”

Jackson Ridge is someplace actress Jamie Riedel left behind, along with the difficult memories. Fourteen years ago, while camping with her father, they’re attacked by someone wearing a ski mask. She was wounded but her father was killed. Not long after that her mother sent her away to live with her grandma, but never understood why her mother did that. When her mother passes away, she returns to Jackson Ridge to settle her estate. It's not long before Jamie finds out, by way of a note on her door, that someone doesn't want her there, but why? Deputy Chief Gage Hansen has always had feelings for Jamie but a cheating wife and ugly divorce has made him apprehensive about opening his heart again, especially to Jamie after reading the stories about her life. But as they work together to find the truth about the past as well as the threats she's now receiving, he finds she’s very much the same girl he remembers. They also discover that their feelings for each other are still very strong. Can two people on very different paths form a future together? The road ahead will have a few unexpected curves and just might result in a 'dead' end if they’re not careful.

I have read most, if not all, of Anne Patrick's books and I can honestly say that none have ever disappointed me. Murder at Black Lake was no exception. Although this was not really an 'edge of your seat' type story, it was full of mystery and intrigue and I will say that there were a couple of places where I held my breath. All the characters were very well drawn. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Jamie and Gage. Jamie was strong yet vulnerable. She had achieved success by the world’s standards but she never felt truly fulfilled. Gage was the perfect combination of strong and tender. I liked the fact that even though he had been badly hurt he didn't become hardened by it. I loved the interaction between them. It was fun and romantic and I appreciated that there wasn't a lot of angst. It made it a pleasure to read. I also appreciated that each had a personal faith that was evident in how they lived. That always encourages me. Gage's sister Mallory was someone I enjoyed getting to know. I would love to see a story with her as the lead and find out what happens with her and Cade. As I closed the book, I was reminded that the conclusions we draw about certain situations are not always correct, so we need to be careful to gather the complete truth before making a judgment. Wow, that was food for thought. If you enjoy a good romantic mystery with a side of suspense, then I would definitely recommend a trip to Jackson Ridge. Do be careful, I hear there's been a little trouble there lately.

Ties that Bind was difficult to put down and I would highly recommend it.

The way in which the killer goes about selecting and killing his victims is both chilling and creepy. The only downside was that I figured out too early in the story who the killer was. The attempt to throw suspicion in a different direction towards the end of the novel came too late and it just didn't convince me. Despite this I enjoyed the serial killer storyline and the whole process the police went through in order to catch him. But, what I liked most was Jo and her story. She is a very interesting and well written character. The fact that she is an FBI profiler is an interesting aspect of her life in itself but she also has a rocky relationship with her family which plays a big part in the story. I loved the fact that she had a psychic connection to the murders and we got to see into the minds of the victims as well as the killer.

There is also a little bit of romance involved as Jo and Sheriff Austen become friendly. I liked that it was only a small aspect of the story and not overdone as the writer focused more on the murder mystery plot.

Leonor A Woodworth is very easy to listen to and she does a fantastic job of narrating Ties that Bind. She did a great job of portraying male and female characters and she gets across their emotions very well.
This is the second of Leonor's productions that I have listened to and I have been impressed both times.

I listened to the audio version of this novel. It was received at no cost from the narrator via audiobookblast.com in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very good murder mystery that had me entertained from beginning to end. The relationship between Sam and Jordan was complex but I felt that their marriage was certainly something that could be mended with a little understanding and forgiveness. Jordan's background and childhood trauma was riveting and set a great backdrop for Jordan's return to her home town and her hunt for the killer. I couldn't wait to grab every chance I could get to put my head phones on and listen to Leonor A. Woodworth narrate this fantastic book.
Leonor's strength lies in her ability to create a voice for each character, male and female. I got a real sense of the characters' feelings and fears both from the words in the story and in how the narrator was able to express all these different emotions. It was very easy to listen to and the narration made it flow nicely. I really enjoyed it and would certainly look for other books narrated by Leonor A. Woodworth.

Nick and Hope Cunningham are both in the army and home on leave. When Nick gets word that his sister, Beth, is missing they immediately travel to Nick’s house to be with his mom and try to figure out what happened to Beth. Beth has always wanted to be a reporter but currently she’s a fact checker; someone who checks the facts and sources. While she’s working on checking facts about a girl’s disappearance, she disappears herself. The situation becomes very stressful and Nick is showing classic signs of PTSD which causes Hope to worry because he won’t acknowledge he needs help. Hope is dealing with her own painful childhood memory that she has yet to share with Nick. As the situation becomes more dangerous, Nick becomes a little more volatile. They must find Beth and Hope must convince Nick he needs help or she’s afraid he’ll find himself court marshaled.

Okay, I have loved all the stories in the Wounded Heroes series but I must say that this is definitely a favorite. Anne Patrick consistently and skillfully weaves mystery, faith, intrigue and romance into page-turning story. You really don’t know who the bad guys are until very near the end, which is always a treat! I loved the dynamic relationship between Hope and Nick. They have a strong love but it’s put to the test. I appreciated Hope’s unwavering faith and the way it influenced her husband. It also helped her through a difficult time in her childhood. I highlighted so many encouraging quotes. You get a glimpse of how difficult a military marriage must be, especially if both people are enlisted. The whole mystery surrounding Beth’s disappearance was very intriguing and kept me guessing, which I love. I truly couldn’t turn pages fast enough. The message that God is always right beside us in good times and bad is woven throughout. I also appreciated seeing Kory and Sean (from Kill Shot) again and catching up with what’s happening in their life. You can learn about Hope and Nick’s history and how they get together by reading “Christmas with Hope”. If you enjoy a page-turning romantic suspense, then I HIGHLY recommend Vengeance.

A few favorite quotes:

Hope to Nick:
“I wanted you to know that no matter what dark valley you’re going through, God is right beside you. If you look closely enough, you can see His fingerprint in many aspects of your life.”

Conversation between Hope and Nick:
Nick helped her from the saddle then wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. “What was that for?” “Cause I felt like it.” “Well do it again.” This time she kissed him back. Nick pulled her close, savoring the outdoorsy scent mixed with her perfume and the taste of her perfect mouth. He left a trail of kisses as he moved to her ear lobe. “I could do this all day.” “Me too…”

Hope to Nick:
“Instead of worrying about me, you need to be concerned about what’s happening with you. We’re gonna have to leave for Germany in a week. If I were you, I would put in for an emergency extension, because if we haven’t found Beth and you go back on duty the ticking time bomb you are right now, you’re liable to end up court marshaled for punching someone out.”

Hope Erickson and Nick Cunningham grew up together. Nick was one of guys who teased hope. Now they are both in the army. Hope is a Black Hawk Pilot and Nick is a sniper. When Nick's team gets into trouble, Hope is the pilot that flies them out. Nick can't believe that the this beautiful pilot is the same girl he knew in school. Hope has a hard time trusting men but there is something about Nick that draws her in.

This is short story but one that's filled with action. There is a few 'words' here and there but they seemed natural to the story. I appreciated getting to know Nick and Hope and how they got together began to build a relationship. It's good groundwork prior to reading Vengeance.

Jo McDaniels is living in Oregon, happily married, and expecting their first child. Jo is content with her life, that is until her old boss wants her help catching the serial killer that managed to escape them in Maine. Harland Briggs has reappeared and is leaving a trail of carnage across the country. Jo was the original profiler on that case and she knows with her gift she can help catch him. Her husband doesn't want her to help. He feels it's too much pressure for her and the baby and way to dangerous. He may be right, but Jo won't rest until the monster is apprehended.

Malice is a great follow-up to Ties That Bind. It's one that keeps you totally involved from beginning to end but does deal with a difficult subject matter. Harland Briggs and the things he does are pure evil. I found myself mostly reading during the daylight hours. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between our lead couple. The ups and downs they experienced made it feel very authentic. I also enjoyed Isaac (Jo's old boss). I thought he added a lot to the story. Bailey is a teen that was fun to get to know. There was an unexpected twist at the end that I thought was great! If you enjoy CSI or similar type stories, I would definitely recommend Malice.

Joe McDaniels has a special gift, something that helps her with her job as an FBI profiler. She has the ability to sense what victims go through right before die, even their pain. She returns to her home town to help the sheriff get a profile on a killer that seems to leave no trace evidence behind. Sheriff Austin Garrett has bodies piling up on him from a vicious killer who leaves his victims headless. He's happy when the FBI sends Joe McDaniels to help him figure out who's behind the murders. It doesn't hurt that she happens to be a beautiful woman. Working together they not only become closer to each other but they're also getting closer to knowing the identity of the killer. Will they find out who it is before it's to late?

I was glued to the pages of Ties That Bind. The book sure puts you through your emotional paces though, as you experience murder through the eyes of a vicious killer. It was written is a realistic way which made it believable and scary. The characters were all lifelike, and fully fleshed out. They were real people with real problems. The relationship between Jo and Austin was a slow build that felt very natural and true to life. You learn about being a profiler which I found very interesting. You'll also find a message of family importance, faith, forgiveness, and relationship restoration. If you enjoy crime shows like CSI or NCIS, then I know you will thoroughly enjoy Ties That Bind.

Caleb Malone returns to the states to recover after being wounded in combat. He decides to take a job working for his brother's PI firm. His first assignment sends him to the town of Keaton. A father suspects his daughter's fiance' is cheating on her but he needs proof. All Caleb has to do is get a few pictures, which might be easier said than done. Abby Hughes works in her family's business as a real estate agent. A large company is wanting to buy property in Keaton which would be a boost to the small towns economy. Abby feels like things are moving along pretty smoothly, with the property sale, until it becomes a battle of the land. But it also becomes a personal battle as well. One deeply rooted in secrets. As Abby and Caleb work together to try and figure it all out, feelings between them begin to stir. Will those feelings and their faith be strong enough to carry them through everything they'll face?

Love, betrayal, forgiveness and, as the title indicates, Secrets, all come to mind when I think about this story! It gets off to a running start and holds your attention all the way to the end. One thing I always appreciate about this authors work, besides the great writing, is the way she keeps you guessing until the very end. But I've got to tell you, she really surprised me with the twist at the end of this story. I LOVE it when that happens! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Caleb (a.k.a. Digger) better. What a great guy. Abby made a fine leading lady. Full of spunk but very tenderhearted and loyal. Her two boys were full of personality too! There was a spiritual thread running through the story which felt very natural and dealt a lot with forgiveness. A message we can't hear often enough. This was a great installment to the Wounded Heroes series. It can be read as a stand alone but I would highly recommend the others books in the series: Kill Shot, Trespasses and Betrayal. I look forward, with great anticipation, to Vengeance! I also want to mention that I love the book covers for this series. They just make you want to read the story!

“Fire Creek” by Anne Patrick was a very intriguing book. I was caught from the beginning of the story. There was just the right amount of romance, suspense and tension to keep me reading until I finished the book. The characters were so believable that I felt I was there myself. Kasey comes back to Fire Creek, Montana to bury her beloved cousin, who committed suicide. Apart from the fact that Kasey is a mystery writer who probably sees a story behind every occurrence, she does not believe that Beth took her own life over the death of her fiancé, Lewis Gray Feather. His good friend, Jimmy Little Raven doesn’t believe that Lewis died the way it was portrayed either. Something sinister is going down in Fire Creek. After Kasey and Jimmy compare notes, they come to the conclusion that they need to investigate further. Of course, this only puts their lives in peril also. This story was so wonderfully written that it pulled me into it from the start to the end. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a short, intense mystery.

I received a free print copy of this book for my honest review from the publisher. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Its full of romance, suspense and mystery: One you don't want to miss reading about!!!!!

I can only hope by not telling you what this story is about you'll be eager to read it. Believe you me; afterwards, you will recommend others to discover its glory. But I will divulge the setting takes place in Emerald Point, Missouri. If you've not been there, you will feel as if you have after reading.

A riveting tale you're bound to enjoy. The author does a superb job in presenting an in-depth and colorful picture of the characters; the storyline; the scene itself (crime and otherwise). As the story unfolds, its descriptive elements will actually have you visualizing every detailed moment; whereas, one may even smell the lingering smoke. For sure its title fits the story. It's apparent the author took her time in researching her works before presenting it to the audience. What a way to go Anne - Great Job as usual!!!! This is one to talk about for years to come.

An ARe Cafe top pick.

This book was an excellent read that progressed with such fluency that I could not put it down for a second. The plot was dynamic and drew me in as a reader because of its intensity and its attention to detail when it came to the investigation. It felt like the hero was telling his side as if he were an agent in real life telling us a true story, which I thought was great. The dialogue was fantastic. It illustrated the importance of the investigation from both of the main characters’ perspectives as they worked towards finding the people responsible. Although there were no sex scenes, the kisses shared between the hero and heroine were passionate and definitely made me eager to see them together. That didn’t happen and still this story was worth reading. What I liked so much about Mackayla was how passionate she was about her job, and the lengths she went to in helping the police. As for the hero, I liked how he wanted to protect Mackayla after trouble came her way.

Overall, Ms. Patrick has penned a superb tale with two strong characters that have to face their pasts — both have lost loved ones — if they’re to have any hope of a future together. Well done. I can’t wait to read the first instalment of this series and the ones to come in the future.

This was a refreshing and delightful story. A story that shows how two older people who have lost their spouses can find true love again. Maggie O’Brien is a spunky 62 year old widow who has traveled to Mason Spring, New Mexico. It is where she and her late husband had spent their honeymoon 39 years ago and a place where she wants to find closure and a time to move on with her life. Carson Jennings is a 65 year old former district judge who has lost his wife to cancer after 35 years of marriage. These two people had good marriages, loved and loved well and weren't looking or expecting to meet anyone to spend the rest of the lives with again, but God works in wonderful and mysterious ways.

Maggie finds herself roller blading and falling and finding Carson there to help her up. There is so much though that goes into this scenario before that happens and it was fun to listen to their thought processes and see how this humble beginning turns into a delightful relationship that results in a great story. Maggie has a lot of quick whit about her and Carson had good comebacks to her every time and you could just see they were a good fit for each other. This book hit a special place in my heart. You don’t often read romantic stories where the two main characters are in their retirement years, and maybe since I am close to that stage in my own life is meant more to me, but I would like to think anyone of any age could enjoy this story and find a real blessing in reading it. The other people that Maggie and Carson come to meet while in Mason Spring, New Mexico were also a blessing and the way they all came together at the end was a joy. There was humor, tenderness, joy and sorrow all wrapped up in a lovely story that was a blessing to read.

Some of may favorite lines; when asked how Maggie made her marriage work for 39 years, she said, “A lot of understanding on my part and whole lot of patience on his.” (How true that is in all good marriages.) And when a good friend asked Maggie if she missed her late husband I loved her response, “I do miss him, very much. But I take comfort in knowing he is in a place where he’s wanted to be all his life. Walking in the garden with Jesus.” Maggie loved thinking of her late husband talking face to face with the person he had committed his whole life to serving. I just appreciated the spiritual refreshment this book was to me. Great job Ann Patrick!

Drew Presley was on active duty when his wife was killed. He leaves the military to return home to Dauphine Island to care for his son and try to find out what happened to Nora. No one seems to know. The folks on the island are very close and protective of each other but could one of them be a killer? Trudy Walsh was best friends with Nora is teacher to Nora and Drew's son, Reed. Trudy is attracted to Drew but is confused about her feelings. Jack Diamond has always been the man she's loved. Drew suspects Jack might have something to do with Nora's death. Trudy's convinced Jack would never do such a thing. But Trudy and Drew will discover the island holds secrets they never expected to find. Secrets that someone is willing to kill for.

Anne Patrick is a favorite author of mine and Betrayal is a great addition to her Wounded Heroes Series! You'll take a ride on a ferry, tour a lighthouse, eat at a local pizzeria and even scuba dive! I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Dauphine Island and meeting all the locals. They're warm and loving people who are really more like a family. I loved getting to know Drew 'Boomer' Presley. He's a wonderful hero. Trudy is one of those people you just feel at home with. She's uplifting and refreshing and knew just how to handle Drew and his son. The chemistry between them was great! I loved how Trudy reminded the reader of Psalm 139. "On the hardest days or in my roughest hours I remembered God has promised that He not only knew everything that would happen to me, but that He would be there for me for every second of every day of my life, whether I realize it or not." That's comforting! I especially liked trying to figure out who was behind everything but you don't really find out until the end. Speaking of the ending, well...you don't want to miss that! Betrayal can be read as a stand alone, but there are characters that appear from the previous stories so I recommend reading them in order. Besides, you'll definitely want to read Kill Shot and Trespasses. Looking forward to next installment due out November 2013!

Kasey Montgomery returns home to Fire Creek, Montana when she learns that her cousin, Beth, committed suicide. As Kasey looks at all the evidence, she realizes there are a lot of things that just don't make sense. The sheriff thinks it's her writers imagination and doesn't take her allegations seriously. Jimmy Little Raven has heard a lot about Kasey from Beth and feels like he already knows her. But he's even more impressed by her in person, as she displays strength and determination. Jimmy also has suspicions of foul play but doesn't have any evidence to back up his theory. Kasey tries to dig deeper and Jimmy tries to keep her out of trouble. Will they find the answers and evidence they're looking for before it's to late?

I'll start by saying that the cover totally grabbed my attention and made me long to read the story. What you'll find inside is a finely tuned romantic suspense. One that keeps you engaged from start to finish. You'll find yourself trying to figure out what happened right along with Kasey and Jimmy. Although you may guess who's behind it, you're never really sure until the end, where you see how it all played out. Kasey and Jimmy were both endearing characters. Kasey was very strong but had a sensitive heart. Jimmy Little Raven was a great guy. I loved his big smile and the way he handled things. Though Jimmy and Kasey are both believers, they struggle with the things they don't understand, just like you and me. Jimmy's son totally won my heart and I know he'll win yours too. What a cutie he was. Along with a great story, the author gives you a little taste of Native American history and folklore, which was really fun. If you're in the mood for a good romantic suspense, I highly recommend a trip to Fire Creek! Watch your step though, there have been a few 'accidents' lately!

Mackayla Kensington is very familiar with heartache. The kidnapping and murder of her own daughter drives her to use her artistic skills to give faces to unidentified skulls that will help others put to rest their loved ones and hopefully catch those responsible. Three bodies have been discovered, buried on a U.S. Senator's property. The local sheriff calls for the help of Gabe Landry, a special agent profiler, to help in finding the killer or killers. Mackayla is called in to help by sketching the faces of the three skulls. As they work together in finding the answers, they just might find something neither of them was looking for. That is if the killer doesn't get Mackayla first.

Be assured when you pick up an Anne Patrick book that you will find in its pages, a strong and capable heroine, a tough yet tender hero, many wonderful secondary characters (including a dog), a solid message of faith, lots of zippy dialog and it's all wrapped up in an edge-of-your-seat suspense. Trespasses is no exception. From beginning to end, you will find yourself totally engaged in the story and immersed in the lives of these real-life characters. I have to say, that though it's a tough subject, I found forensic artistry to be completely fascinating. How they can take pieces of information and create from it a picture of a person is amazing. Every skull really does tell a story! I loved Mackayla and Gabe, who were both very relateable people. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction between the two of them. Mackayla had a steadfast faith that felt so natural, it made me want to be more like her. I really admired her forgiving attitude and wondered if I, in her situation, could have done the same. You can truly understand why Gabe was so drawn to her. Trespasses is book 2 in the Wounded Heroes series and one I highly recommend. This could easily be read as a stand alone but you will not want to miss Kill Shot, which is book 1 in the series. Great job, Anne! Looking forward to the next installment.

Kory Wagner is a former combat medic who survived three tours in Iraq. Now she's home for good and wondering what her future holds. Right now that future includes trying to stay alive. Someone killed her sister and the PI she hired to investigate her sisters death. She's next on the list and comes very close to taking a bullet. Sheriff Sean Harding is called in from vacation when the body of a PI is found dead in a warehouse that's owned by Kory. She manages to escape the Sheriff's whole search party. Sean finds her backpack and a scrapbook that gives him a little more insight into who Kory really is. Kory has a hard time trusting but her gut tells her Sean is a good man. Can they find the killer before he gets his target?

Kill Shot is an excellent start to the Wounded Heroes Series and I for one can't wait for the next installment! Anne once again works her magic in blending just the right amount of humor, suspense and romance to keep you glued to the end. The characters were very well drawn and full of life. As always Anne gives us a strong, capable yet sensitive heroine. Kory is very easy to like! Anne also keeps you guessing until the end who's responsible for the killings. Sean is the perfect kind of hero. Confident and strong enough to handle a strong female. I loved the secondary characters! One of which was Kory's dog, Zinger and the other was her best friend, Digger, from the Army. I actually liked her whole Army unit. You could easily see why they were close knit. The subject of PTSD was realistically addressed as well as the roll faith has in a persons life. You realize how much of an impact having a loving church family can have on a persons life. It's a great reminder that as believers we are God's hands and arms to those who struggle. Anne Patrick is one of my favorite authors. If you haven't read one of her books I highly recommend you pick one up. If you are an Anne Patrick fan, Kill Shot is one you won't want to miss!! I have to say I might be a bit bias, but I have loved all of Anne's book that I have read so far. When Anne contacted me about her newest book of course I said yes as the blurb sounded interesting.

Kory Wagner has come home after retiring from the Army. After several years and 3 tours through Iraq she thought the time had come to get out. Kory has seen too much distraction and heartache. She was a combat medic and watch her members of her own platoon get killed. She also made some good friends with the other members she served with. Digger for one is her best friend who always had her back along with practical jokes from the others.

When he sister is killed by a hit and run driver Kory starts to investigate. She was a medic too long and knew the mark Callie had were not from a hit and run driver. She hires a PI that Digger knows and went to meet him at the warehouse her grandfather left her. She gets there too late as there is another person there who shot the PI and was now shooting at her. Kory gets away but not before she gets the key to a post office box the PI had.

Sheriff Sean harding is on the scene after a woman had called 911 about the shooting. He starts finding out more about the woman who called in. Kory now has him trying to keep her safe from the killer and help figure out what really happened to Callie.

As soon as I started reading the book I was sucked into Kory's life. She suffers from PTS (Post Traumatic Syndrome). Sean tries to help as much as he can as she opens up a little bit each time. I guessing who was after Kory up till the end when the person responsible for the death and trying to kill her is revealed. The characters are well written and work well together. Anne does a great job again of keeping us guessing. This is a must read it has romance and suspense.

This was just a good romantic read with plenty of characters in it you get to know and appreciate, even though some are a little difficult at times. Jenny has lost her husband in a tragic accident 2 years ago and her son Zach has become her "very reason for existence. When she had wanted to shut out the world and wallow in her own self-pity, Zach was the reason she had forced herself out of bed each morning." She is now running their 1200 acre cattle ranch, the Hazy Holloway. It is their home, their future and she will do whatever it takes to make it work. She has Buddy her right hand man on the ranch and Tommy but she needs more help. So Buddy encourages her to hire his son, Gil, who is back from the war and needs to come home and make himself useful. So let the romance begin. Jenny can be pretty "hard-nosed" when it comes to being in charge and she has no interest in falling in love. Gil is a handy man to have around and hits it off big time with Zach, but he must tread very slowly with Jenny. Then there Jenny's Dad who comes to live with them and also the break-in at the ranch, and it just makes the dynamics of the story all that much more interesting. This was a book that was just a pleasure to read and for me, very relaxing.
I was not a big fan of the cover of this story. It is a little picky I guess but Jenny would fight to the end before she would be caught in a dress, and I just didn't think the characters on the front fit my view of these two people. Oh well, you can't please everyone all the time now can you?

Jenny Holloway is a widow who's running a 1200-acre ranch and raising her son Zach on her own. She likes being busy but she could really use some help. Her foreman, Buddy, suggests she hire his son Gil Montgomery who has recently returned home from his military duty. After meeting Gil, Jenny readily agrees to hire him on. She knows she could never find the kind of love she had with her husband, so why does her stomach do flip-flops whenever he's near. Gil Montgomery has ranching in his blood. Though his outward scars from the war have healed he knows this job is just want he needs for his inward healing. Jenny causes his heart to stir in ways it hasn't before but he knows that since her husbands death she's placed big walls around her heart. The more they work together the more he knows that Jenny and Zach are the future he's looking for but will he ever be able to convince Jenny?

I knew when I saw the totally awesome cover of Renegade Hearts that I absolutely had to find out the tale within. I was immediately drawn in by the gentle prose of this story. It truly matched the cover with an easy ebb and flow that I just loved! Though it was not an edge-of-your-seat type story I found myself glued to the pages because I became so involved with its true-to-life well-drawn characters. You will fall in love with each one them. Gil was an excellent leading man. I just loved the way he was with Jenny and Zach. (Big sigh!) Jenny is someone to admire. She was strong and independent but reasonable and tender. Zach will steal your heart hands down! He is such a great little man! And Buddy, Gil's Dad, was a total gem! Now don't get me wrong, this did have a mystery to it and as typical with Anne Patrick's stories, you don't find out the whole truth until the end. She always keeps you guessing. I just LOVED Renegade Hearts! It's an easy, feel-good, up-lifting tale you won't want to miss. A thank you goes to the author for providing this complimentary copy for my review.

Jordan Russell was working for the FBI when the monster who abducted her as a child resurfaces. She quits the FBI and returns home to Thorny Creek with the idea of finally putting to rest the nightmare of those memories and finding out who he is so she can stop him. She also leaves behind her FBI husband (Sam) who she thinks has a thing for his lady partner. Sam Russell had made a terrible mistake and now he's lost the woman he loves. When Sam gets call from Jordan's cousin (the mayor) with a request to come to Thorny Creek to help investigate the latest victims of a serial killer, known as The Musical Strangler, he jumps at the chance. He's hoping he can help solve the case as well as win back the heart of the woman he can't live without. Jordan hasn't told Sam about her abduction. When he finds out, will he feel differently about her? Can Jordan get past her hurt and forgive Sam for his indiscretion? Above all, will they discover the true identity of the 'The Musical Strangler' before it's too late???

A Familiar Evil is one of those stories that once you start reading you just can't stop. It has all the elements I have come to love about Anne Patrick's writing. Great characters, zippy dialog and lots of red herrings all wrapped up in 'edge of your seat' suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed Sam and Jordan. The interaction between these two was electric. I liked all the secondary characters as well, especially Devin. He's only 9 but what a little charmer he is. I loved all the advice he gave Sam. I enjoyed watching Sam and Jordan work through their issues. It was done in a realistic and believable way. The story keeps a steady pace then ramps up to it's nail-biting conclusion. As with all of Anne's stories, she keeps you guessing on who the killer is until the end. I love that! I highly recommend A Familiar Evil but be sure to set aside a block of time...you're going to need it. It's a great story! A thank you goes to the author for providing this complimentary copy for my review.

have never read anything by Anne Patrick before. I hate to admit I've never known about her or her books. Imagine my surprise when asked to review this read, that I could not put down. I had a feeling I was going to like it, but you can never tell.

Sadie is a remarkable character who I wanted to know more about. She is called to her home town to investigate a fire that killed a collage student. Sadie has not been home in a while for reasons she keeps to herself. She meets the Chief of Police Quinn, who comes across as a klutz. They both help each other on this case. Sadie's Uncle Joe is the Fire Chief of the small town. As they work together you can't help, but laugh along the way at some of the crazy things that happen with the Quinn and Sadie.

There are most twists and angles to keep you guessing till the end of the book. All the characters are well done. Sadie's family even makes you, the reader, feel like part of the family. I wanted to know more. I do hope there will be another book with these characters in it. I would love to see what happens next.

I as not paid for this review what so ever.

A good romantic story with some mystery and suspense and danger thrown in. It didn't take me long to read and kept me very interested all the way through till the end. Judge Katie McKinley is receiving threatening letters and one of the suspects is Graham Bishop a guy she has always known and at one time dated, but he made a mistake in court one day and got very angry at her ruling. Now he must prove to Katie that she can trust him.

I appreciated the love both these characters had and lost at different times in their lives. It was an emotional story at some points and I had tears in my eyes at one point in the story. A story of trust, and of rekindling a flame that never died out.

Katie McKinley is a district judge who sometimes doesn't like her job very much. Like ruling against her childhood friend and first love, Graham Bishop. It cost Graham his family's home. So, when Katie starts receiving threatening notes and an attempt is made on her life the Sheriff wonders if it could be Graham. Katie is sure that the Graham she knew would never really try to hurt her or would he? Graham Bishop has always had a heart for Katie. Now that they are both without their spouses he hopes that maybe his life long prayer might be answered. But, can he convince Katie and the Sheriff that he had nothing to do with the threats?

My goodness, I was totally enthralled with Sabotage! It kept me turning pages from beginning to end. I really liked the lead couple along with all the secondary characters. I always enjoy this authors characters because they are so true-to-life. They struggle with issues that we all struggle with. The message of how past decisions can affect your future played out strong in Graham & Katie. But the message of how a good strong role model to give you guidance can make a major difference along with your faith in God was strong as well. If you love a good story with great characters complete with a faith message, mystery, suspense and, of course, romance then don't miss Sabotage. I highly recommend it! Great job Anne!

This was another good story by Anne Patrick. Sadie McGregor is a fire investigator and the story starts right out with a deadly fire that Sadie is called out to in her home town of Emerald Point, Missouri. Although the fire was made to look like an accident, Sadie begins to uncover clues that it was arson and that someone took the life of a local college student, buy why?? Sadie finds herself working with the new Sheriff in town, Quinn Harrington. Sadie and Quinn quickly become friends and I enjoyed reading their interaction between each other; they both had a good sense of humor. But Sadie is still struggling with guilt from her childhood and the loss of her parents and brother when she was seven in a fire. Quinn tries to help her find her way back to a God who loves her, and also help her discover who the arsonist is and who is trying to "get rid of" anyone who comes to close to the truth.
This was a suspense, mystery and romance package all in one. I enjoyed reading it and learning how detailed a fire investigation gets and how much can be learned from the fire. A good job Anne Patrick!
