Although this book had some useful information on spices, ultimately I found its attention to the principles of ayurveda too low and the author's refusal to interrogate his sources (some peer-reviewed articles, but some popular books and newspaper articles reporting studies) or attend to conflicting data problematic.

I think even those who agree unreservedly with his recommendations that all people should eat eggs and butter, ghee, coconut oil, or the other fats he includes as "healthy" daily (despite his earlier focus, on the ayurvedic chapters, on our constitutional differences) might wish the book devoted more attention to meal plans and recipes beyond the 14-day "detox." (A meal plan that includes steak for lunch and beef for dinner, liver and lamb, pork and bone broth.)

Like many who are promoting a specific, highly restrictive diet, the author was generous with his personal story of healing, and this book was clearly a labor of love. However, I felt that there was such a disconnect between his chapters on the Blue Zones, what the cavemen really ate, and the wisdom of ayurveda, and the diet advice he gives, that this book ultimately left me scratching my head.
